The inaugural 2018 PokerStars LIVE Asia Jeju Red Dragon is off to a roaring start at the Jeju Shinhwa World – Landing Casino. The ten-day tournament series began its proceedings with the ₩450k Kickoff and the ₩60M Super High Roll on November 30.
The Red Dragon series is one of Asia`s most prestigious stops and with the marquee event making its debut appearance in Jeju, a strong attendance was all but guaranteed. The series has always been a favorite back home and therefore it is no surprise, that several Indian pros have travelled all the way to the South Korean venue to participate at the series Team India’s Kalyan Chakravarthy, Sumit Sapra, Young Gun Abhinav Iyer, Adda52 Team pro Kunal Patni and MadOverPoker pro Zarvan Tumboli are all present at the series and barring Chakravarthy, all of them entered the Kickoff event through the second starting flight i.e. Day 1B. Unfortunately, none among them was able to make much headway.
Undeterred, the Indian camp was quick to join the ₩1.2M Baby Dragon with Zarvan Tumboli (53,300) and Kalyan Chakravarthy (23,300) making it through to Day 2.
While the Super High Roller is set to declare a winner on December 2, the Kickoff event crowned a winner in China’s Jian Guo Chen who captured his maiden live title along with a career-best ₩11,100,000 in cash prize. A relatively less-known player, Chen`s first recorded score can be traced to the ¥2,270 + 230 No Limit Hold’em event at the 2016 Yunnan Poker Tournament (YNPT), Kunming, where he finished 18th for ¥13,000. He came close to winning his first title in the HK$3,000 No Limit Hold’em – Turbo at the Oriental Poker Championship 2018 Macau, with a runner-up finish worth HK$36,100.
Drawing in a total of 107 entries, the Kickoff event generated a prize pool of ₩42,800,000. With only the top 13 spots assured payouts, Day 2 began with Masuda Shota (200,000) in the chip lead.

Jian Guo Chen was placed sixth in stacks at the start of the final table. He steadily made his way to the top, staging a comeback at the time when the play was four-handed and eventually squared off against Malaysia’s Kok Weng Beh.
Beh had dominated the final table for a long time and looked well on his way to victory. He knocked Weiju Hou out in seventh place and sent Masuda Shota to the rail in sixth place.
However, Chen then took over the lead and eliminated three out of the remaining four competitors to enter the heads-up against Kok Weng Beh with a stack of 494,000 as against Beh’s 576,000. Ultimately, Chen outlasted Beh in the final hand with his winning over Beh’s and claimed his first-ever live title to take home a career-best ₩11,100,000 in prize money.
