The Coronavirus pandemic may have dealt a big blow to live poker stops, but business was never so brisk on the virtual felts. Online operators are not lying low during the ongoing crisis and the major players are doing everything they can to reach out to the masses.

Earlier this month, PokerStars India onboarded former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as its brand ambassador. In another prominent brand association, Hollywood actor-comedian and high-stakes poker player Kevin Hart has joined global poker giant partypoker as the site’s new celebrity ambassador. Making the surprise announcement, partypoker supremo Rob Yong tweeted, “I asked my man Kevin Hart to help me promote amateur poker. He’s the highest stakes amateur player in the world and I want him to help me promote amateur poker… promote poker to the masses.”

Hart was one of the few international celebrities endorsing PokerStars in 2017. The 40-year old A-lister, who has appeared in blockbuster hits like Jumanji, The Upside, and Ride Along, reportedly has a net worth of $200 Million. The stand-up comedian is a known poker enthusiast and has been spotted at numerous high stakes events in the past. He is also known to play regular private cash games with other superstars like rapper JayZ and Instagram sensation Dan Bilzerian.

According to Yong’s tweet, Hart was at a high-stakes game with Yong, Andrew Robl, and Jean-Robert Bellande at the table when he convinced Hart to come onboard partypoker.

Confirming the news, Hart tweeted, “I’m here to party, I’m here to make it a good time. Expect the world of poker to get a lot more fun. Expect it to get real, and expect us to get rid of all of the people that make it so fucking technical, man.”

Hart is no stranger to the poker industry. As a brand ambassador for PokerStars, Hart has featured in many promotional videos for the brand. In 2018, he was seen with Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt in several PokerStars video ads as part of the brand’s #GameOn campaign.

2019 was not an excellent year for Hart, who lost a boxing match prop bet to Antonio Esfandiari in April. He managed to land himself in the hospital with severe back injuries just a few months later after being involved in a car accident in California. Thankfully Hart made a full recovery!

Hart is now back with the same mission to “Make Poker fun again,” but the only change this time is that it is for a different brand.
