Lithuania’s Tony G (cover-image) topped the 149-player field in the three-day-long $10,400 High Roller at the 2022 Luxon Pay Mediterranean Poker Party (MPP), taking home the lion’s share of $257,500. USA`s Alex Peffly cashed for $247,500 in second place, courtesy of a heads-up deal.

The #1 ranked player on Lithuania’s All-Time Money List, Tony G is a well-known name in the poker circuit, boasting over $10.81 Million in live tournament earnings. He bagged his career-best score earlier this year in Triton Poker Series Madrid’s €100K NLHE Short Deck Main Event, netting $1,389,436 as the runner-up.

Speaking to reporters after a lightning-fast final table, Tony G said, “Nice victory this time. Champagne for the casino. Cyprus is a lucky place. Managed to knock out five Russians along the path to victory. In the final table, knocked out the great Australian K Burns. Chidwick and Danny Tang were tough opponents. Ultimately it’s a confidence builder that I can still compete after so many years away from the circuit.”

The MPP also hosted a high-stakes “Tortilla Slap Challenge” for eminent poker personalities like Phil Nagy, Tony G, the reigning WSOP Main Event champion Espen Jorstad, Nacho Barbero & Dusk Till Dawn cardroom owner Rob Yong. The challengers bought in for $5,000 for an opportunity to win a seat in Triton Poker’s $25K No-Limit Hold ’em event.

For those who don’t know, the “Tortilla Slap Challenge” is a slightly more complicated try-not-to-laugh challenge where participants fill their mouths with water and have to keep it in place while slapping each other in the face with a tortilla wrap.

After a brief head-up battle against Barbero, Jorstad won the challenge, collecting the $25K ticket to the Triton Poker’s High Roller.

Tournament Recap

The $10,400 buy-in High Roller registered a starting field of 149 runners (96 unique players and 53 re-entries). The $1,490,000 prize pool was distributed among the top 22 finishers.

The steep buy-in attracted top talent, and several notables crossed the money line, including WSOP bracelet winners Stephen Chidwick (4th for $100,000), Danny Tang (5th for $80,000), Kahle Burns (6th for $65,000), and Pieter Aerts (21st for $25,000).

While initially scheduled to play out on September 4, an extra day was added early in the morning on September 5, once the six-handed table was formed.

Dany Tang was chip leading the six finalists coming into the final table. However, Day 3 had other plans for Tang, who was seen walking towards the rail in fifth place.

The six-handed final table action was fast and intense. Australian MTT crusher Kahle Burns (6th) was the first person to bust out on the final table.

Following the eliminations of Stephen Chidwick (4th) and Andrea Ricci (3rd), the two remaining players, Tony G and Alex Peffly, started the heads-up play.

With shallow stacks, rising blinds, and a $105,000 difference between first and second place, the duo struck a deal to lessen the blow of busting in second place. The deal fared well for Peffly, who couldn`t get past Tony G and captured the $247,500 runner-up prize, leaving Tony G to clinch yet another title and $257,500 in prize money.
