In an era where technology has advanced tremendously, there are hardly any sports that has not reaped the benefits of technology to make itself more entertaining and desirable to the public. From websites to apps and now Virtual Reality (VR), poker, too has benefitted from modern technology.
Bringing virtual reality to the world of poker for the very first time is the online poker giant and industry leader, PokerStars. Credited with introducing various variants of poker to the gaming audience like ‘Split Hold’em’ and ‘Showtime’, PokerStars innovation team has now come out with ‘PokerStars VR’.
With a target to amalgamate the best aspects of live and online poker in an entertaining and engaging manner, PokerStars VR is a free-to-play, authentic and immersive social poker game that aims to recreate the live poker environment.
This platform will offer online poker players an authentic poker experience where they can see and interact with their fellow players, giving them a chance to study their opponents as well.
The VR platform will also let you customize your own in-game avatar and, like at an actual table, handle your cards and your chips. PokerStars VR also offers players a wide variety of choices for the backdrop of their playing environment which includes the deck of a yacht in the Monte Carlo harbour to a skydeck overlooking Macau.
Accessible to users through Oculus Rift VR headset which gives a hands-on experience and delivers an amazing social ambience at the virtual poker felts. The headset has been developed by Oculus VR, a division of Facebook Inc., and was first released in March 2016.
Slated for a commercial release sometime in the recent future, PokerStars VR is a big step towards the progress of live and online poker.
