The record-smashing online mega-tournament, 2018 partypoker MILLIONS Online $20M Main Event that pulled in a massive 4,367 entrants from five opening flights is now in the history books. Manuel ‘Sheparentao’ Ruivo captured the title and $2,329,944 in prize money after a heads-up chop with Pim ‘ForMatherRussia’ de Goede who settled for a runner-up finish for $2,309,995.
The online event crushed its gigantic $20 Million guarantee with the entrants coughing up the expensive $5,300 buy-in. With such big numbers, the prize pool hit a historic $21,385,000 mark.
While Day 2 of the event saw 687 hopefuls returning, the field had whittled down to the final 29 by the time the third and final day began. By then the money was reached, with 500 players guaranteed at least $10,918, while all the 29 finalists were in the money for a guaranteed $65,505. It was Mexico’s ‘wheatforsheep’ who led the survivors with a stack of 566,295,284 coming into the final day.
Among the top stacks, Christopher “Ad_Finem” Kruk (11th for $163,720), Jon “ICMslut99” Clark (19thfor $109,175), and Chance “ChanceSeeYou” Kornuth (22nd for $81,881) busted short of the final table.
The eight-max final table of the online poker event kicked off after the elimination of Ukraine’s ‘senchilko’ (9th for $218,350) who got unlucky when his ace-queen was cracked by De Goede’s ace-jack.
Portugal’s Pedro ‘Maddonaa’ Marques who had registered at partypoker with a Dutch flag entered the final table as chip leader. However, De Goede quickly took over the lead.
‘orginALUS’ from Lithuania was the first casualty on the final table when Marques jammed king-eight from the small blind and ‘orginALUS’ called off his three big blind stack with ace-ten. Marques managed to pair his eight on the flop and kept ahead through the board, to send ‘orginALUS’ out in eighth place.
Next up, ‘wheatforsheep’ moved all in with queen-deuce suited from the small blind but didn’t improve, falling to big blind De Goede’s ace-ten in seventh place.
COL_Moutarde then pushed all his chips in from the button with ace-four suited and was called by De Goede with ace-ten. De Goede’s hand held and COL_Moutarde was eliminated in sixth place.
Malta’s ‘j2805667’ was the next out of the door in fifth place after his ace-jack was cracked by ‘Sheparentao’s queen-seven.
Manuel ‘Sheparentao’ Ruivo then sent Pedro ‘Maddonaa’ Marques out in fourth place with his pocket jacks reigning over the latter’s king-seven.
For Slovenia’s ‘Scarmak3r’ who had qualified into the tournament for as little as $5 the dream run ended in third place after his pocket deuces failed to hold up against De Goede’s pocket sixes.
One hand into the heads-up between Pim ‘ForMatherRussia’ de Goede and Ruivo and the two finalists halted play to discuss a deal. Based on their chip counts, Ruivo was declared winner while De Goede took second place with both going home with over $2.3 Million in prize money!
