MPL Poker Showdown Promises the Right Mix of Glitz, Glamour & Entertainment & ₹15 Lakhs in Cash Prizes

Chris Moneymaker, who famously won the 2003 WSOP Main Event, and is credited for the poker boom in the U.S., once said – “The beautiful thing about poker is that everybody thinks they can play!!” Yes, of course, anybody can play poker and going by MPL Poker‘s latest announcement, the game will get all the more on-edge very soon!

The poker arm of India’s leading gaming portal Mobile Premier League, MPL Poker, has lined up a poker contest unlike any other! Behold the MPL Poker Showdown. This is not a simple tournament – it is an initiative that passionately strives to draw mainstream attention to our favourite game of skill while offering an enticing ₹15 Lakhs in prize money.

The MPL Poker Showdown will be a live-streamed extravaganza featuring an eclectic group of 30 celebrities who will compete over five rounds of poker. The excitement starts on January 12 and will continue until March 9. The action will be streamed for the masses every Wednesday, 8 PM onwards on the viral Filter Copy YouTube channel, boasting over 9 million subscribers. There will be a sixth-round open to MPL Poker, selected through a leaderboard promotion (January 10 – 30). Two qualifiers each from the six rounds will advance to play the semi-finals and finals. The eventual champion will walk away with the lion’s share of a ₹15 Lakhs prize pool, the top prize of ₹10 Lakhs, while the runner-up will collect ₹5 Lakhs!

Adding the glamor quotient to the MPL Poker Showdown will be a beeline of artists from different spheres of creativity, ranging from musicians, professional gamers and stand-up comedians. This includes live streamer Gamerfleet (1.71 Million YouTube subscribers with avg. live watching of 40K+ viewers), stand-up comedians Kunal Kamra (1.98 Million YouTube subscribers), and Rohan Joshi (AIB co-founder), Instagram influencer Aanchal Aggarwal, professional gamers Sid Joshi and Mamba, rap artists MC Altaf, Slowcheetah, and Shah Rule – to name a few.

Calling the action on these celebrity streams will be MPL Poker Team Pro Dhaval Mudgal, famous stand-up comedian Nishant Tanwar and mentalist Suhani Shah, packing in a lot of fun and oomph!

The MPL Poker Showdown is broken into the following stages –

> Rounds 1- 5 (January 12 – February 9) – will have casual entertainers, gamers, comedians, and musicians pitting their poker skills against each other

> Round 6: (February 16) – six MPL users will face off against each other

> Round 7: (February 23) Semi-final 1 – two players each from the previous six rounds will compete against each other

> Round 8: (March 2) Semi-final 2 – two players each from the previous six rounds will compete against each other

> Round 9: Finals (March 9) – We will see a total of six participants in the competition. This includes three qualifiers each from rounds 7 & 8

 

The First Five Rounds

The MPL Poker Showdown comes packed with entertainment and fun. A total of 30 artists representing different genres of art, including music, comedy, and gaming, will compete against each other across five rounds of poker.

The live-streamed contest will be hosted by MPL Poker Team Pro Dhaval Mudgal, “Joke SinghNishant Tanwar, and mentalist/magician Suhani Shah. As the play carries on, the trio will offer tips and leads to the players, making it easy for the audience to understand the game’s nuances.

Two players from each round get picked, so 10 celebrities will qualify for the semi-finals. Here is a list of some influencers who will be participating and the dates of their poker match:

Round 1 (January 12) – Casual Entertainers: Rohan Joshi, Gamerfleet, Aanchal Aggarwal, etc.

Round 2 (January 19) – Gamers: 8bit Goldy, Sid Joshi, Mamba, K18, etc.

Round 3 (January 26) – Comedians: Sahil Shah, Karunesh Talwar, Sapan Verma, etc.

Round 4 (February 2) – Musicians: MC Altaf, Slowcheetah, Shah Rule, D’evil, etc.

Round 5 (February 9) – Comedians: Kunal Kamra, Ashish Shakya, Prakhar Gupta, etc.

 

Round 6

Round 6 takes place on February 16 and is open only for MPL Poker players. The six participants will be selected through a separate leaderboard promotion that will go live on the app on January 10 and run till January 30. The top 10 ranked players from every stake will win a seat in a tournament, and the final six players will grab a seat for round 6. The top two finishers of round 6 will compete in the semi-finals.

 

Semi-Finals

Two players from each of the six rounds will compete against each other in round 7 and round 8, respectively.

Semi-final 2: March 2

 

The Finals

Bringing the curtains down on the MPL Poker Showdown will be the Grand Finale on March 9. A total of three qualifiers from round 7 and round 8 will compete against each other in the Finals. Only the top two places get paid. The ultimate champion will collect a cool ₹10 Lakhs, while the runner-up will bag ₹5 Lakhs.

While the MPL Poker Showdown offers a perfect fix of entertainment and prizes, what makes this offering impressive is the efforts being made by the brand to broadcast poker, and merge it effortlessly with fun. The question remains – “Are you game for the biggest showdown in Indian poker history?”
