In Feb, Mukul Pahuja (cover image) finished 11th at the WSOP Circuit West Palm Beach Event! He made up for that disappointment by claiming the title on Dec 22nd, in the 2014/2015 WSOP Circuit $1,675 Main Event at Harrah’s Atlantic City.
This last of the WSOP Circuit Main Events this year, had a player field of 460, ensuring a prize pool of $690,000.
This year, Mukul has been on a roll, with five cashes and three final tables, $1,447,742 in winnings and the highest accrued 3,450 points in the World Poker Tour Season XII Player of the Year race. The only thing missing was a title and he finally achieved that at this 3-day event, taking home $148,345 for his 1st place win.
Speaking about it after the win, Mukul said, “I’ve been feeling great about everything I’ve been doing lately. But a lot of things have to go well as you saw today. A lot of guys got it in really good today and it didn’t work out. There were a lot of good players at this final table, a lot of high-level play and there were some crazy swings.”
Day 3 of the event began with Mukul sitting pretty low on the chip stack counts, with Mike Dentale leading. Mukul moved into accelerated gear right at the start and was responsible for most of the eliminations. The first bust came at Level 26 (15,000/30,000/5,000) and David Matthews found his king seven helpless against Mukul’s king queen, forcing Matthews to retire in 9th place for $13,766.
Joseph Liberta and Jesse Cohen exited in 8th and 7th place respectively, followed by Adam Teasdale, who fell when he found Mukul’s ace king too tough for his pocket fives. Teasdale retired with $28,497 in 6th place.
The 5th elimination was Jim Petolicchio, who was busted by Jake Toole. Continuing his upward march, Mukul took the next elimination, railing day chip leader Dentale in 4th place.
Three-handed play resumed with Jake Toole, Mukul and Gajan Jeganathan. At one point, Mukul profited off Gajan, who was out in 3rd place, giving Mukul a 5-1-chip lead for the heads up with Toole.
Without wasting more time, Mukul used the acquired chips to reach victory in just a few minutes. The final hand saw Mukul raise to 120,000 on the button, Toole shoved all in and Mukul called.
