The two-part series is set to release on Valentine’s Day, February 14, and showcases six engaged couples’ journeys and highlights all that goes into crafting the ‘dream wedding.’ According to the official synopsis, The Big Day takes a look into “the multibillion-dollar Indian wedding industry, through six extravagant Indian weddings, across the globe.”

You can watch the trailer of the soon-to-be-released show below.

Aditya, who has been a prominent part of the domestic circuit, got hitched to Gayeti last year. In a previous interview with PokerGuru, talking about his married life, Aditya had said, “I definitely should have gotten married earlier because life has been running gooood ever since then. It’s just having her around; she’s such a positive influence on me. She keeps me so balanced. When I’m tilting, she sorts me out; when I’m not playing well, she calms me down. She’s just fantastic. It’s the support system, as well as companionship, that makes life so much more comfortable and allows me to focus on my professional life without stress.”

While Aditya has been a part of poker production due to his commentary gigs, Gayeti, too, is no stranger to the digital media platform. A Delhi-based journalist, she is the co-founder and associate editor of the online digital daily, TheCitizen.in.

PokerGuru caught up with Aditya and Gayeti to know more about this enchanting new series.

About the Show – The Big Day

While Netflix is notorious for keeping its content under wraps until the release date, Aditya could still share some insight about the series with us.

“It’s about the modern Indian wedding because people still want to do that big wedding. It covers different couples. In fact, with Netflix, they have made me sign a whole bunch of NDAs and whatnot along the way. So, they have, very much like, total content control over it. But as far as like the overall concept was to cover the modern Indian wedding with couples or people from different backgrounds. I’m guessing that’s what it’s gonna be. I kind of think they tweak it in the middle to make it a little more feel great because 2020 was a rough year for everyone. I don’t know, honestly, what the concept is, but by the face of it, it looks like it’s fun.”

Becoming a Part of the Show

When asked how the opportunity to be a part of the show came about, Gayeti revealed that it all happened while shopping for her wedding lehenga at a wedding show.

“It was all quite unexpected. I was with Aditya’s sisters and mom at a wedding show, looking for a lehenga for our upcoming wedding. We were at Gaurav Gupta’s stall, and I tried on this incredibly dreamy, cream lehenga … next thing I knew, we were chatting with Gaurav and the producers about the show, and possibly featuring on it.”

“So, from there they were like oh, she looks stunning in this dress. Do you guys want to be a part of this? We like your story and everything. So, we were like, sure, why not. It sounds like a lot of fun. It’s not every day that you get an opportunity. So just said yeah, let’s do it,” Aditya chimed in.

The Filming Process

The wedding revelries started on November 6 with the Mehendi ceremony. The actual wedding took place on the morning of November 8. The festivities carried on till November 10, concluding with the wedding reception and after-party.

Aditya shared that the filming process for the whole was a memorable experience for Gayeti and him. He even went on to say that although the filming crew was with them 24/7, they were rather inconspicuous.

“There were, I think, about six to eight people here, almost 24/7. They were recording everything, from the event to us getting ready in the morning, to our houses where we were just hanging around in pajamas. They documented the entire thing. But they did it wonderfully. You wouldn’t even know they were there at some point. They were just complete pros about it. So, they just sort of went around and wanted to just capture exactly what was going on. It wasn’t like a narrative or a script that they wanted us to sort of push on to the camera. They just, fully documented it as is. They took the interviews and stuff with us, and our family, of course, along the way. But all very seamless. It was, I was a bit nervous. It’s already stressful to organize a big wedding, and I didn’t want to be worried about incorporating these guys into it. But it was completely seamless. Yeah. They managed it super well.”

Recalling the filming experience, Gayeti said, “I’m not sure how to separate the experience of the show from the wedding itself, as Aditya and I were focused on celebrating the two of us and on our friends and families. The Netflix crew integrated seamlessly into the celebrations and did not distract from the wedding celebrations at all. It was about us, and not about the show, and that’s what made the experience memorable.”

Sneaking Poker Into the Conversation

Even though the show’s theme revolves around modern Indian weddings, being the poker lover he is, Aditya still tried to sneak some poker conversation into his interviews.

“I tried in the interviews. I tried to sneak in as much poker as possible. I don’t know how much of it they will use. That’s what I was running through my head the whole time. I was like, it’s going to be on Netflix. I tried to give a shoutout about poker and let the world know that it’s happening through this platform. I tried, I tried to sneak in as much as possible. I don’t know what’s gonna make it to the Final Cut. But I’ve done my best, let’s say. Highlight poker wherever possible. Sometimes that also ends up getting dirty looks from the wife and family. They are like, dude, just talk about the wedding, you know.”
