The PokerBaazi Premier League (PPL) 2018 has been a marathon of high-value tournaments that has kept the players on their toes and the audience on the edge of their seats! After Spring, Summer and Autumn editions, the last series in the PPL line-up was the Winter’18 Edition which kicked off on December 10 and ran till December 16.
While the Winter Edition was stacked with exciting events, it was The MoneyMaker ₹1 Crore GTD that was invariably the centre of attraction. The event pulled a total of 1,332 entries (742 unique and 590 re-entries) which smashed the ₹1 Crore guarantee and collected ₹1.33 Crores in total. It was Nitish ‘Somnath’ Gupta who obliterated the playing field and added ₹32.63 Lakhs to his bankroll.
Gupta, who was our first PokerGuru Young Gun way back in 2013 had posted his career-first live score in the ₹12,000 NLHE – Bounty at the PokerGuru Tour Season 2 – March Edition, where he finished third for ₹1,10,000. He has clearly come a long way since and has spent the better part of the past few years playing high-stakes cash games.
The final table of PPL#31 The MoneyMaker ₹1 Crore GTD was crowded with regulars from the domestic circuit and the lineup featured names like Gaurav ‘gaug17’ Sood (5th for ₹5.99 Lakhs) and Guruprasad ‘fish_calling’ Gupta (8th for ₹2.66 Lakhs). But Gupta’s ultimate showdown was against winner of the 2018 APPT Manila ₱15,000 NLH Turbo Chiraag ‘Versutus’ Patel. In the end Gupta prevailed to become the new MoneyMaker champion!
However, one of the most prolific players throughout the series was Sameer ‘Killersam’ Tavanandi. Not only did he win the PPL #6 ₹1,100 NLHE Superstack ₹5 Lakhs GTD (₹1.30 Lakhs) and PPL#34 Time Bomb ₹1 Lakhs GTD (₹19,025), he scored in an incredible 11 other events, out of the 34 total events he clocked in at the series. It`s therefore no surprise that he was adjudicated the PPL Winter’18 Leaderboard winner.
Speaking of champions, one player synonymous with consistency is Ramlakhan ‘Hitler’ Meena. This 25-year-old pro from Jaipur has made a habit out of topping the PPL leaderboards as back in June, the had created history by winning two back-to-back PPL leaderboards (Spring and Summer editions). He worked his magic yet again and just about edged ahead of Tavanandi to top the PPL Overall Yearly Leaderboard. His efforts and perseverance through the year earned him a brand-new Harley Davidson bike!
A total of 34 events were hosted at the series over the course of a week and here`s a complete list of winners.
