We’ve entered April, and it’s hard to believe how fast the three months have gone by! Online poker continues to boom, but it took a back seat recently for the Baazi Poker Tour, the first live MTT scene to be held in Goa after an almost two-year gap.
If you have been following our website and social media channels, you would know that the just-concluded Baazi Poker Tour was a massive hit, and the Main Event set a new attendance record with 900 entries! All the big guns could be seen in the thick of the action, excluding Manish Lakhotia and Amit Gehani – the other eight players on the top-10 of the annual ranking were in attendance.
The #1 ranked player of the year, Young Gun Anuj Yadav, had our undivided attention in Goa, and he gave us something to write. The 26-year-old poker pro had a muted series, but it all came together for him last Sunday, where shortly after making Day 2 of the BPT Main Event, Yadav jumped into the Sunday flagships back at his hotel. He FT-ed the two biggest tournaments running and cashed for ₹7.71 Lakhs across four ITM finishes. He pocketed over ₹10 Lakhs as the week whizzed by, becoming the first player to cross ₹1.50 Crores annually. He has cemented his stronghold as the winningest player of the year for a fifth consecutive week and also holds steady as the most profitable player of the year with ₹91.68 Lakhs in annual profits.
Young Guns Arsh Grover and Sahil Chutani retained their positions as the second and the third-ranked players of the year, despite posting relatively modest scores.
The two-time POY, Young Gun Gaurav Sood, finally got the monkey off his back as he won his first live title in the BPT series-opener ₹15K Kickoff last week. However, he has work to do if he intends to take the POY title for the third time. Sood is currently ranked 13th on the annual leaderboard and will most likely be taking time off for his wedding three weeks away. That said, Sood is still one of the toughest players in the business and displayed his characteristic form on Friday, banking ₹6.13 Lakhs to become the first player to enter the “₹12 Crore Club.”
Since we skipped our Online Rankings report last week, we bring you the March standings this week. Arsh Grover, the MTT specialist, had the most profitable grind in March, recording over ₹84.77 Lakhs in total winnings and an equally impressive ₹57.70 Lakhs in net profits. Most of that can be attributed to the FTS – Main Event he won for a whopping ₹40.24 Lakhs – and the score was enough to make him the March leaderboard topper. The NPS Main Event champion Chirag Sodha and FTS – Main Event runner-up finisher Mohammad Azhar round out the top three names on the March leaderboard standings.
PokerBaazi’s #BaaziBillion The MoneyMaker was the showstopper last Sunday, and the eventual champion Umesh Paswan bagged a leaderboard-topping ₹17.50 Lakhs. The MoneyMaker runner-up finisher Aditya Pratap Singh and the in-form Aditya Sushant took the #2 and #3 spots in the weekly rankings.

The Goa trip for the BPT coupled with birthday celebrations resulted in Grover managing only singular cash this past week. However, his spectacular show earlier saw him taking down the March leaderboard.

The three-time The Millionaire winning Yadav raked in over ₹10 Lakhs this week, further extending his lead on the annual charts.

Yearly Cashes – ₹1,14,95,080
Yearly Profit – ₹80,26,066
Yearly Leaderboard Points – 8,426
Like Arsh Grover, Young Gun Sahil Chutani was practically missing from action on the virtual felts this week. Not that we’re complaining. Chutani was one of the top players to watch out for at the recently concluded 2022 BPT and bagged a career-best (live) ₹25.22 Lakhs in the BPT Highroller.
As for his online scorecard, Chutani added less than ₹3 Lakhs this week. Even though he retains the #3 rank on the annual leaderboards, Chutani might need to get going at the just-started Spartan Poker`s The Millionaire Series to wade off competition from Mohammad Azhar and PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Ahuja.
