After over three weeks of relative quiet, March mania has set in with two flagship stops – Final Table Series and the National Poker Series (that started today), driving up the action to a feverish peak. With further upheavals in the leaderboard standings all but guaranteed, we`ve already witnessed a change of guard at the top of the annual charts. Last month`s IOPC – The Crown champion Amit Gehani`s three-week streak as the #1 ranked player in the country came to an end last Sunday with Young Gun Anuj Yadav dethroning him after winning Spartan Poker`s Sunday Superstack for ₹6.93 Lakhs. While it’s still a slender advantage for Yadav at the moment, given his past records, we know this will be one player we’ll be writing a lot about in this column.
But wait! Even though Anuj Yadav holds to the #1 position in annual winnings, the two breakout scores at the IOPC have kept Gehani on top in annual profits. Another IOPC star, the IOPC #69 – Legends, and IOPC #49 High Roller champion, Young Gun Sahil Chutani, remains entrenched at the #3 spot for the third consecutive week.
Young Gun Kanchan Sharma is one player who deserves a special mention for the manner in which she has climbed to #8 on the annual charts. The two-time POY Young Gun Gaurav Sood is another player in solid contention to hit the hattrick as he sits in ninth place.
Since we are in the first week of March, we skip recapping the monthly rankings separately since they are more or less identical to the weekly standings.
Sticking to our catchphrase – “the Sunday headliner usually tops the weekly leaderboard,” last Sunday’s Adda52 Big Game champion Arun Sriram bagged the top honors this week. Coming in hot after winning the 2021 Aadda52 Champions Leaderboard and a pro contract worth ₹20 Lakhs, Sriram made away with an even-better ₹21.04 Lakhs over the week, ₹18.24 Lakhs of that his profits.
We specially named Young Gun Kanchan Sharma above, but we do it here again – all for her sheer consistency. The Agra resident shipped three flagships in two days, banking ₹15.93 Lakhs to take the #2 spot in the weekly standings!
The Big Game runner-up finisher, Shashank Jain, rounds out the top three names on the weekly charts.
