Online Rankings: Sood Headlines Weekly & Monthly Rankings; Completes 22 Weeks as #1 Ranked Player in the Country

In this feature, we bring you to the top three weekly, monthly, and yearly performers every Saturday. These rankings are based on cumulative winnings (cashes). However, the rankings only include players registered to our online ranking system, so if you haven’t signed up on PokerGuru yet, hurry up and register!

We would like to start this week’s ‘Online Rankings’ with a confession. We have run out of praises for Gaurav Sood. In February, when we had made this massively talented player our Young Gun, we knew he had it in him to make it big in poker someday. Well, he proved us right and how!

At just 25 years of age, Sood has been crushing the online MTT’s for most of the year! He has occupied the #1 rank in the annual leaderboard for 22 consecutive weeks and is the only player to have amassed over ₹3 Crores, precisely ₹3.68 Crores, in recorded earnings (across domestic platforms) in 2020! And all this with a whopping profit of ₹1.90 Crores.

This week, Sood was simply unstoppable. Over time, Sood has almost all the flagships; however, the prestigious Spartan Poker Millionaire title was missing from the list of his achievements. He finally added the Millionaire title to his kitty after taking down the GPS Millionaire United on Sunday night. But that wasn’t all. Sood also shipped the ₹30 Lakhs GTD GPS#28 Destiny and PokerBaazi’s ₹20 Lakhs GTD The Weekly HighRoller through the week to improve his online record to ₹5.85 Crores.

Adda52’s ₹1 Crore GTD Full House Finale champion Akash Gupta had banked the single-biggest score of ₹22 Lakhs this week. However, it was no match for Sood’s blockbuster week. Nevertheless, he did grab the second spot on both weekly and monthly rankings.

Young Gun Arsh Grover and online phenom Srihari Bang retained their second and third spots on the annual rankings, respectively, with PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Ahuja closing in fast on them at #4.

Topping the annual leaderboard has become second nature to Young Gun Gaurav Sood, but this week he went one step ahead and capture the weekly rankings top seat as well. While he won a total of three flagship titles this week, his most noteworthy score was recorded in Spartan Poker’s ₹1 Crore GTD GPS The Millionaire United. He traversed a field of 1,332 entries, banking a jaw-dropping ₹17.75 Lakhs. He also final tabled Adda52’s ₹1 Crore GTD Full House Finale, placing seventh for ₹2 Lakhs, taking his cumulative Sunday score to ₹19.75 Lakhs!

Just three days later, he took down his second GPS title in the ₹30 Lakhs GTD GPS #28 Destiny for ₹7.97 Lakhs while adding PokerBaazi’s ₹20 Lakhs GTD The Weekly HighRoller title to his tally last night for ₹5 Lakhs.

In all, he accumulated an incredible ₹34.62 Lakhs through the week at a profit of ₹30.05 Lakhs.

Even though Sood topped the weekly rankings, it was the Adda52’s Full House Finale ₹1 Crore GTD champion, Akash Gupta, who procured the single-biggest score this week. He outlasted a 1,686-strong entry field and championed the event to pocket a career-best ₹22 Lakhs. However, unlike Sood, he only managed to secure one other final table score throughout the week, a third-place finish in Adda52’s Hijack Huskies on October 4 for ₹90,000.

He bagged ₹22.94 Lakhs in weekly earnings, with a profit of ₹22.45 Lakhs.

The Chandigarh-based pro, PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Ahuja, picked up five final table finishes this week. The lawyer-turned-poker pro, who is presently ranked #4 on the yearly leaderboard, took down two marquee events, namely Adda52’s ₹15 Lakhs GTD Big Slick on October 4 for ₹2.74 Lakhs and PokerStars India’s ₹15 Lakhs GTD Highroller on October 9 for ₹3.03 Lakhs. However, he scored this week’s top score in Spartan Poker’s ₹55 Lakhs GTD GPS#34 High Roller on October 8, where he placed third for ₹7.10 Lakhs.

As has been the trend in most of our ‘Online Rankings’ feature, the player who tops the weekly leaderboard early on in the month invariably ends up dominating the monthly rankings as well. This week the honor goes to the undisputed yearly leaderboard topper, Young Gun Gaurav Sood, who sits on top of all three leaderboards.

Sood couldn’t have asked for a better start to the week as he got his hands on the coveted Millionaire title in Spartan Poker’s ₹1 Crore GTD GPS The Millionaire United on Sunday for ₹17.75 Lakhs. He added another ₹2 Lakhs to his bankroll by finishing seventh in Adda52’s ₹1 Crore GTD Full House Finale on the same day.

As the week progressed, he took down his career-second Destiny title on Wednesday for ₹7.96 Lakhs. He rounded out his weekly scorecard by winning PokerBaazi’s ₹20 Lakhs GTD The Weekly HighRoller on Friday for ₹5.01 Lakhs.

He has already raked by ₹37.25 Lakhs in monthly earnings, with a profit of ₹31.27 Lakhs.

Besides shipping the Full House, Gupta also placed third in Adda52’s Hijack Huskies for ₹90,000, which was his only other standout score this week. He presently has ₹1.58 Crores in lifetime recorded winnings.
