2020 is now in the books, and as predicted, it was Young Gun Gaurav Sood who ended the year ranked ‘numero uno’ on both the annual winnings and profits leaderboard. With ₹4.51 Crores in annual earnings, Sood earned over ₹50 Lakhs (₹50.78 Lakhs to be precise) more than his closest competitor, Young Gun Arsh Grover.
Sood set many tall benchmarks in 2020 and was very close to ending the year not just as the yearly leaderboard topper but also as the December leaderboard champion. He was denied the honor by two-time Millionaire champion, Manish Lakhotia, who whisked the opportunity away from him. Sood is now closing in on making a formal entry in the ‘₹7 Crores Club’ in lifetime online earnings (₹6.71 Crores). A milestone, given his indomitable form, he may very well achieve before the end of this month.
Coming to Arsh Grover, the Delhi-based MTT pro has been a phenomenal performer throughout the year. It had become increasingly apparent in the last three months that Grover would be the only real contender to dethrone Sood at the top of the annual ranking. But it was not to be, and Grover settled in at the #2 rank, a position he had held onto for 17 consecutive weeks. Grover also ranked #5 on the December leaderboard.
The fact that Sood and Grover would occupy the top two spots on the annual leaderboard is something that was known to almost anyone following our online rankings feature. But the fight for the #3 rank was a fiercely contested battle between several top pros. PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish Ahuja had held onto the rank for the second and third week of December. Still, he had tough competition from the likes of APL Ambassador Sumit Sapra, Srihari Bang, and Sanat Mehrotra. Nevertheless, Ahuja pulled through till the end, concluding 2020 ranked third on the yearly rankings.
While Lakhtia’s Millionaire win more or less took him to the pole position on the December rankings and Sood’s stellar run got him the second spot, it was PokerGuru Ambassador Arjanveer Singh Chadha who beat out fellow teammate Ashutosh Balodhi for the #3 rank on the December leaderboard.
So, let’s now take a look at the top performers for 2020!
