We’ve entered June, signaling that we`re nearing the midway mark for the year, and boy, have we seen some intense competition at the top of the leaderboard standings. If we quickly compare the annual earnings figures from last year where Young Gun Gaurav Sood was the runaway leader with ₹4.51 Crores in yearly winnings, this time we have three players around that run rate, and surprise-surprise Gaurav Sood is one of them!
But before we get to the annual rankings, let’s do a quick roundup of the weekly leaderboard standings. PokerGuru Ambassadors had dominated the weekly charts for three consecutive weeks – each time for winning Spartan Poker`s The Millionaire – before Anirban D Das broke the chain this week. The marketing major from IIM Ahmedabad, Das, won Adda52’s inaugural Adda52 Colossus on Sunday for a jaw-dropping ₹19.66 Lakhs. And to ensure he walked away as the top-ranked player of the week, he championed Spartan Poker`s Friday-night Futuristic to close out the week with ₹26.58 Lakhs in total winnings (₹18.54 Lakhs in profits)!
Rallying behind Das is Spartan Poker`s latest ‘The Millionaire’ champion Deepak Bothra. The cash game pro had decided to take a long sabbatical from poker after his Sunday session, and what do you know?! He ended up shipping the biggest tourney of the weekend, The Millionaire, for a personal-best ₹20.66 Lakhs!
You can’t keep PokerGuru Ambassadors out of the podium, and sure enough, the Adda52 Colossus runner-up finisher Mithun Mahesh takes the #3 spot on the weekly charts with ₹16.55 Lakhs in earnings through the week.
Since this is the first week of June, we’re not dedicating a separate section to the monthly rankings. For the May rankings, check out last week`s report.
The annual leaderboard race has been a fiercely contested three-way battle for the last eight weeks, with Manish Lakhotia, PokerGuru Ambassador Laksh Pal Singh, and Young Gun Gaurav Sood all taking turns sitting at the #1 position. The Siliguri-based Lakhotia, who took over the top spot last week, retains his position this week. He had entered the week with a shade over ₹1.94 Crore in annual winnings and won the Mukkamaar on Saturday and placed runner-up in The Pride on Wednesday to become the first player this year to cross the ₹2 Crore marker.
While Lakhotia might be #1 in winnings, his relative position according to net profits is more modest – he ranks #8 in the profits charts. Here’s where PokerGuru Staking`s Laksh Pal Singh steps over and beyond, as he is still the only player with over ₹1 Crore in annual profits! The #1 ranked player of 2020, both in winnings and profits, Young Gun Gaurav Sood keeps his #3 spot in the yearly cashes leaderboard and #2 in the profits charts. This is a race too close to call yet.
The list of 2021 crorepatis has also increased since last week, with 25 players now sitting with over ₹1 Crore in recorded winnings for the year. This list includes an impressive seven PokerGuru Ambassadors, four of them sitting in the top 10 annual standings.
