It was anything but a dull week for online MTT players as the Independence week celebrations gave way to electrifying action across all the major poker platforms. Still, live tournaments overshadowed everything else happening in poker land this week, with Indian players keeping the tricolor flying high at major stops like EPT Barcelona, WPT Prime Cambodia, and APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh!
And as we have reported in the last six months, Young Gun Anuj Yadav (annual winnings – ₹3.08 Crores) is still the player to catch in the annual leaderboard rankings. The 25-year-old poker pro has completed 25 consecutive weeks as the top-ranked player of the year, and all he needs to do is keep this up for another ten weeks to edge past Young Gun Gaurav Sood’s 34-week record as the POY topper in 2021.
The top three on the annual leaderboard show the status quo as Young Gun`s Sahil Chutani (annual winnings – ₹2.80 Crores) and Arsh Grover (annual winnings – ₹2.56 Crores) continue to trail Yadav, although Yadav has steadily increased his lead.
We were expecting Sahil Chutani to make some headway this week, but the poker coach was notably missing in action throughout the week. Chutani seems to have made some plans of his own, for he recently closed down his BTR Staking stable, and when contacted, he confirmed to us that he had shifted base to London, trimming his chances at giving the POY title a serious chase. Nevertheless, his breakout run earlier this year, especially his back-to-back IOPC Legends victories, keep him on top of the annual profits charts. Will Yadav be able to make up the deficit in the coming weeks is something we will have to see.
As for Arsh Grover, the Young Gun was the biggest scorer of the trio this week with ₹12.35 Lakhs in total winnings – all thanks to his third-place finish in Spartan Poker`s FCS#99 High Main Event last Sunday for ₹10.84 Lakhs.
Spartan Poker’s Freedom Celebration Series was the biggest attraction last weekend, and MPL Poker Team Pro Siddharth Karia (monthly winnings – ₹31.23 Lkhs) sure made quite the impression. The Young Gun raced past a 1,508-player field in the event to emerge as the first-ever FCS Main Event champion and collected a whopping ₹21.30 Lakhs in the process. While that was Karia’s second-biggest online score, it also catapulted him to the top of the August leaderboard rankings.
Long-time pro Shashank Jain (monthly winnings – ₹29.57 Lakhs) and Anish Arora (monthly winnings – ₹28.73 Lakhs) stand tall as the #2 and #3 ranked players of August.
Karia’s FCS Main Event score has also secured him the #1 position in the weekly standings, with PokerGuru Ambassador Vishal Bajaj (weekly winnings – ₹17.76 Lakhs) and Alok Birewar (weekly winnings – ₹16.49 Lakhs) finishing #2 and #3 in the charts!
