It was a busy week all around. PokerBaazi’s National Poker Series India 2023 concluded on Sunday, two days before the World Poker Tour Prime India wrapped up its week-long run at Casino Deltin Royale in Goa.
The Player of the Year (POY) race has been closely followed since the beginning of the year, with Ashish Munot (annual winnings – ₹2.43 Crores) maintaining a significant lead over Young Gun Gaurav Sood (annual winnings – ₹2.14 Crores) and Young Gun Arsh Grover (annual winnings – ₹1.83 Crores).
Sood had an intense week, adding over ₹4.80 Lakhs to his winnings and maintaining his #2 place on the annual leaderboard. Meanwhile, Grover cashed in only two tournaments.
The top three players on the monthly leaderboard remained unchanged, with Shashank Shekhar (monthly winnings – ₹53.07 Lakhs) and Ankit Wadhawan (monthly winnings – ₹40.71 Lakhs) retaining their positions despite being absent from the online grind after Sunday.
Mohammad Azhar (monthly winnings – ₹35.72 Lakhs) came in third, adding less than ₹1 Lakhs to his name but avoiding an upset from the incoming challenge by the Sunday champions.
In the weekly charts, Prateek Bhartia (weekly winnings – ₹30.93 Lakhs) came out on top after storming his way to victory in PokerBaazi’s NPS#106 Main Event last Sunday. The old-timer made an impressive comeback with a win, bagging his first NPS gold medal and a career-best ₹30.91 Lakhs following a heads-up deal with ‘back2basics‘ (2nd for ₹29.08 Lakhs).
The second and third positions on the weekly charts went to Sparsh Gupta (weekly winnings – ₹15.20 Lakhs) and Anirban D Das (weekly winnings – ₹13.86 Lakhs), respectively, since the NPS Main Event runner-up is an unknown player.
