He has done it! After practically crushing the online MTT scene single-handedly last year, Young Gun Gaurav Sood has pulled off the unimaginable by topping both the winnings and profit leaderboard standings of 2021, his second consecutive year bagging the “Winningest Player of the Year’ title. The 25-year-old closed out the year after spending 22 weeks on top of the annual charts and has all but cemented his name as the country’s undisputed #1 ranked MTT player!

With a jaw-dropping ₹4.44 Crores in tracked winnings and an equally impressive ₹2.20 Crores in net profits, Sood`s 2021 scorecard came out only slightly behind his 2020 tally (₹4.51 Crores in winnings and ₹2.24 Crores in profits) that saw him ruling the annual leaderboard for a record 34 consecutive weeks! He first took charge of the annual charts in April-end when he won Spartan Poker’s The Millionaire for a second time. His standout moment came in August when he shipped the WPT India Super Highroller for a personal-best ₹32.60 Lakhs, making him the first player to cross ₹3 Crores annually.

2021 like the year before it, was also one that saw Sood improving on several personal records – he crossed the benchmark ₹10 Crore milestone in recorded MTT winnings and is also the only player sitting on over ₹11 Crores in recorded winnings and above ₹5 Crores in lifetime MTT profits.

However, unlike 2020, the competition was relatively tighter this time around, with Manish Lakhotia never entirely out of contention of catching up with Sood. The MTT pro from Siliguri ended the year a little over ₹21 Lakhs behind Sood. The IOPC – The Crown-winning PokerGuru Ambassador Laksh Pal Singh closed out 2021 ranked #3.

Looking at the December rankings, Rising Star Ritwik Khanna was the player to catch. The 24-year-old who started playing the game seriously about six years ago put in insane volume through the month. He was the star performer in Spartan Poker’s Winter Celebration Series (WCS) and even topped the WCS Feature Leaderboard. Consistency apart, Khanna lapped up over ₹38.41 Lakhs through the month. He FT-ed an incredible 15 events and won prestigious titles like the Moz Roller and WCS #48 Deepstack. Young Gun Anuj Yadav and Punya Behera were the other two top performers of December.

Shagun Jain, Young Gun Sanat Mehrotra, and Aditya Singh topped the weekly charts to close out 2021.
