The announcement of the launch of a new online poker site does not necessarily always generate interest. Well if someone like high-stake poker pro Phil Galfond (cover image) is making the announcement, then that is bound to catch the attention of the poker community.

It so happens that Phil Galfond is actually planning on starting his own online poker site and wrote about it on his online training site RunItOnce.com. However, he is still keeping the cards close to his chest and not revealing much of the proposed site only indicating that the site is still months away from seeing the lights of the day.

But he spelled out his vision quite clearly. “A poker site should believe in fairness,” Galfond said in the post. “Not fairness for the sake of public image and profits, but fairness for fairness’s sake.”

Explaining further, Galfond added “A poker site shouldn’t obsess over where poker was five or ten years ago. It should seek to build a sustainable economy in the conditions of the present. It must continue to adapt to the climate.”

With over $2 million in live tournaments from a career spanning over 10 years, it is quite natural that Galfond will be particularly sensitive about player’s rights on his new site.

The American player writes that his site will value all the players first and foremost, starting from recreational, semi-pros or those who make their entire living playing poker. Galfond states the site will pride itself on honesty, transparency, and “should be held accountable for the decisions it makes.

“It shouldn’t let honest players, professional or recreational, be taken advantage of by others exploiting unenforceable rules,” he felt. “It should seek to put a stop to predatory behaviour and to cheating of any kind. It should strive to create as level a playing field as possible.

But Galfond knows well that it is easier said than done. “I know it’s a monumental task,” he commented in his post. “I understand the risks and believe we have the right team in place to make it happen.”

And like a true player he concluded, “I’m going to give it my best shot.”

Good luck Mr. Galfond. The poker community is waiting!
