Phillip Huxley Wins WSOP International Circuit 50th Anniversary Marrakech Main Event

Marrakech, the former imperial city of western Morocco, played host to the 2019 WSOP International Circuit 50th Anniversary Marrakech 15,000 MAD Main Event that took place at the Es Saadi Resort. The three-day event pulled in a healthy 359 entries that helped generate a 4,685,000 MAD prize pool. The top 47 finishers were paid and taking home the lion`s share of the prize money was Phillip Huxley (cover image), who took home the trophy and 947,780 MAD for his victory.

With the majority of the Indian talent currently busy at the WSOP in Las Vegas, there was just one Indian player – Rakesh Lalwani who was seen in attendance at the event, and he even managed to min-cash. Lawani finished 41st for 25,000 MAD (~1.83 Lakhs).

Other notables who made it in the money included Michael Allmrodt (11th for 75,000 MAD), Giovanni Rosadoni (16th for 48,000 MAD), Evangelos Bechrakis (26th for 30,000 MAD), Najib Bennis (38th for 27,000 MAD), and Mourad Falfoul (47th for 25,000 MAD).

The nine-handed final table commenced with the elimination of Franck Lelong (10th for 88,000 MAD).

Final Table Recap

Sammy Berrehail was the first one out and also the first one to collect a 6-figure score (in dirhams).

Next to bite the dust was Souhayl Fjer who pushed his short stack with only to get snapped by Huxley who held . Huxley improved to a three-of-a-kind on the rundown eliminating Fjer in eighth place.

Florian Geiger (7th place), Anthony Marchetti (6th place) and local hero Javier Tsunamy (5th place) all followed suit shortly after that.

David Vergnes exited in fourth place after losing all his chips to André Marques.

ROMI`s roller coaster ride at the final table eventually ended in third place and that too at the hands of the eventual winner Huxley.

The two finalists, André Marques, and Phillip Huxley shook hands on a deal even before the heads-up play started. Huxley was assured 817,780 MAD while Marques locked in 732,220 MAD and the match began for the ring, the additional 130,000 MAD left in play and the $10,000 ticket to the WSOPC Global Championship.

On the final hand of the event, Marques limped in with , and Huxley checked his option holding . Huxley check-raised the flop , and Andres made the call to see the on the turn. This time, Huxley check-raised all-in. Marques elected to call and settled for the runner up spot after the river completed the board.
