The first-ever Poker Dream Vietnam festival kicked off on October 14 at the Hoiana Hotel & Suites KHOS in Quảng Nam, Vietnam, with the Warm Up and High Roller Freezeout firing up the action.

Day 1 of the 28-tournament series saw a few familiar Indian faces in action. Seasoned pro Kunal Patni (1,260,000) is off to a decent start after bagging a top-five stack among 37 survivors advancing to Day 2 of the High Roller Freezeout. Young Gun Shardul Parthasarathi (649,000) also made the cut, bagging the 12th most enormous stack.

2022 has been a remarkable year for Team India, especially in the South-Asian circuit. Vietnam has been a favored hunting ground for the ‘desi’ pros. Therefore, their presence in this inaugural series isn’t surprising, and looking at the start, the next few days could keep up busy!

Like many of his compatriots, Patni has been a frequent presence in the South Asian circuit. In fact, the banker-turned-poker pro clinched his career-first WPT trophy two months ago, winning the Deepstack NLH at the 2022 WPT Prime Cambodia.

Parthasarathi’s track record in Vietnam is awe-inspiring, considering he championed the VND 5 Billion GTD APT Vietnam Hanoi Main Event four months ago. Since then, the poker coach has posted several deep runs in the South-Asian circuit and will be eyeing another good run here.

The VN₫ 70 Million buy-in High Roller Freezeout registered a 72-player field, and Lo Kai Bong (1,640,000) chip leads the 37 remaining players.

Suresh Kolli was the only Indian to survive the opening day’s play in the Warm Up Event and carried a shortish stack of 59,000. Though Kolli is a prolific online crusher, having won several online marquees, he is yet to record a live score. Since all players returning for Day 2 are ensured a piece of the prize pool, Kolli is assured of bagging his maiden live payout.

Day 2 will begin with 41 survivors, headlined by Chung Ming San (507,000).
