Poker Masters Online PLO Series: Marcello Marigliano Wins Event #1 For $249,053

The unprecedented health crisis brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic has forced most global poker brands to take their marquee tournament offerings to the virtual felts. Early this month, Poker Central announced that the Poker Masters Online (PMO) PLO Series would run on partypoker from June 21 to June 29.

Having tested the online turf successfully with the Poker Masters Online and SHRB Online, the brand went big, promising $10 Million in prize pool guarantees for the PLO series.

Only nine places were assured a payout, and some of the prominent pros who profited in the event were Sweden’s Niklas Astedt (7th for $26,182), Finland’s Niko Soininen (8th for $26,182) and Norway’s Andreas Torbergsen (9th for $26,182).

Their elimination also formed the six-handed final table.

Final Table Recap

Lasse Nielsen and two-time WSOP bracelet winner Jesper Hougaard were the first casualties on the final table, hitting the rail in sixth and fifth places.

Mark Demirjian was dispatched in fourth place after his all-in move with ace-queen-ten-six double suited lost out to Gavin Cochrane’s flopped top set.

Marigliano, who had eliminated Hougaard, scored another knockout by sending Hungary’s Norbert Szecsi packing in third place.

The heads-up between Gavin Cochrane and Marcello Marigliano lasted about an hour before Marigliano had all the chips in play.
