The Indian poker industry has witnessed several upheavals in the past few months. From the closure of online poker site PokerNation to industrialist Raj Kundra and Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra launching a brand-new poker site – ‘PokerRaj.com’ and Sanjay Dalmia’s Caretel Infotech introducing ‘Poker Johny’, there’s been a lot going on. Adding to this chaotic environment, comes the announcement of PokerDangal’s acquisition of the now defunct online poker site PokerMet.

Xeta Networks Pvt. Ltd., which is the parent company of PokerDangal, has recently acquired the online gaming website previously operated by Kolkata-based XLN Media Solutions Pvt. Ltd., PokerMet, for an undisclosed amount.

Co-founder of PokerDangal, Karan Gandhi told PokerGuru, “Acquiring a competitor in the first year of our operation is a statement of intent and a testament to our growth story. Not many start-ups in their first year have been able to scale up to the level where they start acquiring other players. This is one of the first consolidations in this sector in India and it will pave the way for many more to come in the future.”

Launched in early 2017, PokerMet had ceased operations on its site for the past few months and had also failed to honour its commitment of processing the pending withdrawal requests of players’ deposits and winnings. This led to many negative feedbacks and reviews from the poker community on social media.

Hardly a year into its operations, PokerDangal’s takeover of the struggling site, is as challenging as it is commendable. However, the question regarding the fate of the players and Team Pros who had been left holding the bag when the site ceased operations was not answered.

Putting the doubts to rest, Gandhi responded, “Never before in this industry, has any operator paid out player dues which were stuck in a portal which had ceased operation for various reasons. We intend to clear the payments in a phased manner as there is a lot of data for the team to go through. We will be releasing a list of players on our official FB page, https://www.facebook.com/PokerDangalOnline. The dues to these players will be cleared on every Monday. It is our commitment that within 4-5 weeks we will clear all legitimate dues of players. The amount due to the players would be added in their PokerDangal accounts and this amount would be instantly withdrawable.”

As a start, PokerDangal is working on creating a hassle-free payouts system for the PokerMet players who have been waiting for their money for some time.

“PokerMet had close to 10,000 registered players and 2,000 depositing players. We will be reaching out to these users to integrate them with PokerDangal. PokerMet was struggling with its business operations due to some internal turmoil, hence could not run in a streamlined manner. The idea is to win the trust of the players and community and show them that we have good intentions and true to our companies vision we want to grow Poker as a sport and take it to masses,” Gandhi further commented.

While it remains to be seen whether the gaming firm succeeds to allay user apprehension, PokerDangal has surely taken a big step in the right direction.
