Cheating, manipulation, bluffing, anything to win; this seems to be a popular notion that non-poker players have about the poker fraternity. But for many players, and they consider all these run-of-the-mill, anything goes.

Here are two stories, one of a player caught counting cards, who sued the casino, and another is of Vanessa Rousso, who has wheedled her way into the top three of Big Brother.

Squeezed in between is a tale of a young November Niner Josh Beckley, who has just won his first WSOP jewelry and is preparing for the final table come November.

Hard Rock Casino Sued For Manhandling Player Who Was Counting Cards

Poker players obviously believe in their own set of rules. First it was Phil Ivey, who when caught indulging in “edge-sorting” claimed he was not cheating. Now comes another case of “card-counting” by New Jersey player Thom-Matthew Kho at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Kho has sued the hotel for theft, false imprisonment, and battery, after he was handcuffed and illegally detained by the casino.

The incident took place during the Aug 22 to 23 weekend and Kho was seen counting cards at a blackjack table. The casino confiscated chips worth $3,625 from the player.

Kho is now seeking $10,000 in damages from the casino. Card counting is certainly not illegal in Nevada, but players who indulge in this are often blacklisted by casinos.

The player’s lawsuit states that after he felt he was being watched, he went straight to get his chips encashed and the fracas began there. He requested anonymity, which was refused and then he was manhandled by the staff. According to his lawsuit, several rights violations were made, which included him being “physically searched against his will, his wallet unconsensually removed from his pocket and rifled, his picture taken against his will.”

Kho has also alleged that as per regulations, the casino should have contacted the Nevada Gaming control Board, which they failed to do.

November Niner Josh Beckley Wins WSOP Circuit Ring in Palm Beach

It’s not every day that a player reaches the November Nine, but Josh Beckley made it this year. By making that final table, he has already locked in a min payday of $1,001,020. Beckley has now won the WSOP Circuit Palm Beach Kennel Club stop for $22,349 and his first gold ring.

Post this win, Beckley told WSOP officials,”It’s definitely an ego boost. It makes me more confident with my game. It might also show the other [November Niners] that I can win a tournament.”

The $365 buy-in Monster Stackevent drew 317 entries and created a prize pool of $95,100.

Beckley began Day 2 as the chip lead and never let the advantage slip right until the end. In heads up play, Beckley’s proved greater than Aric Pluskat’s and he took the title.

Beckley added that, “It’s basically final table strategy. The money is different and people are playing differently here, but I still have to consider a couple things. I think I’m fine tuning for the [Main Event].”
