Poker is certainly an exhilarating and engaging sport but there is a charitable side to the mind sport too. Besides the charity events that are frequently held as a part of poker tournaments, poker professionals have often exposed their charitable natures to fans. One such player is the World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu, who has decided to award a PokerStars Platinum Pass to the best fan video that supports a worthy cause.
Coming back to the exciting aspect of poker, the upcoming Asia Poker Tour (APT) Vietnam 2018 will introduce the “Short Deck Poker” event for a buy-in of VND 7,700,000.
Meanwhile, 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK is also set to take off on September 29 and will feature five events which will culminate on October 7.
The PokerStars Platinum Pass has been all the rage in the world of poker for the past couple of months. Not only is the pass worth $30,000, it is also a ticket to the PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC) to be held in the Bahamas in January 2019.
Several high-profile and high-value poker tournaments have already given away a number of these passes, and now six-time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu has joined in on the action. ‘Kid Poker’ is currently running a competition, which will run till September 30, to award PSPC Pass to the best fan video while supporting a worthy cause.
So, to win the pass all you have to do is create a short video explaining which charity you would play for, and why. A link to the video needs to be uploaded to Twitter using the hashtag #DonateWithDaniel, as well as mailed to donatewithdaniel@starsgroup.com.
After Negreanu receives the videos, he along with a panel of judges, will review the submissions and choose the winner. There will be five finalists chosen on October 7, followed by the announcement of the winner of the Platinum Pass on October 13. The other four finalists will each receive $1,000, which will be donated to the charity of their choice.
Talking about the contest in a PokerStars blog post, Negreanu wrote, “To win this Platinum Pass Adventure, create a video no longer than two minutes and 20 seconds (2:20) in which you introduce yourself to us, introduce the charity you want to play for at the PSPC, and tell us exactly why you support this great cause.”
The APT Vietnam 2018 festival is set to run from October 5 to October 11 at the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh City and making an appearance for the very first at the series will be the “Short Deck Poker” variant.
A new variant of Texas Hold’em, Short Deck Poker is played with only 36 cards from the deck. The deck is shortened by removing the following cards: all 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s.
This variant is played with antes and single blind on the button. Players begin with three bullets and have the option of starting with 1, 2, or all 3 bullets at once. Renewal of bullets can be done only in between hands. Once registration closes, all remaining bullets will be in play.
It is played just like traditional Hold’em with a slight difference in hand rankings:
1. Royal Flush
2. Straight Flush
3. Four-of-a-kind
4. Flush
5. Full House
6. Straight
7. Three-of-a-kind
8. Two pair
9. High card
The ace can be used to form both the high end and low-end straights. For the low, the ace can act as a five, i.e. , to form the lowest possible straight.
The tournament will be seven-handed. while the Final Table will be eight-handed with a Shot Clock.
The APT “Short Deck” event will be held on October 11, which is the final day of APT Vietnam 2018, for a buy-in of VND 7,700,000.
