In this edition of our PokerGuru 3-Bet we focus on some new and exciting announcements. First off we have Poker Central coming out with the schedule for the inaugural U.S. Poker Open that ist o be hosted at Aria and streamed live on PokerGO. In other news, the high value $55 Red Spade Open tournament with $1 Million GTD is returning on PokerStars on Dec 4, 2017 and to conclude this edition, we bring you the tale of Dutch poker players Steven van Zadelhoff and Rolf Slotboom who were recently inducted into the Dutch Poker Hall of Fame.

U.S. Poker Open to Debut at Aria Featuring High Stakes Mixed Games

Poker Central is looking to change the poker scene in their own way by offering not just NLHE high stakes tournaments but also bringing in other formats for players and fans alike. In a step towards that goal, Poker Central has announced the inaugural U.S. Poker Open series, which is set to debut on February 1, 2018 at Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and will be streamed live on PokerGO.

The eight-event series includes a PLO event along with a Mixed Game Championship.

The U.S. Poker Open announcement appears to be the latest among a series of Poker Central offerings that have been hosted at the Aria and streamed on PokerGO. The series aims to switch things up by introducing high stakes tournaments outside of the NLHE box.

Poker Central’s president Joe Kakaty commenting on the new series stated, “The U.S. Poker Open is our newest marquee tournament positioned to kick off the high-stakes tournament calendar. Our lineup of quarterly majors give PokerGO subscribers year-round access to some of the best high-stakes poker in the world.”

In addition to two $10,000 Hold’em events and three $25,000 Hold’em events, the series will feature a $10,000 PLO and the $25,000 Mixed-Game Championship, featuring the standard eight-game mix — limit Hold’em, no-limit Hold’em, razz, stud, stud hi-lo, Omaha hi-lo, PLO and 2-7 triple draw.

Each tournament will run for two days and feature a single re-entry option, outside of the Mixed Game Championship and the Main Event, which will last three days.

The headline $50,000 Main Event is slated to begin for February 9. All tables throughout the series will be six-handed with the exception of seven-handed final tables.

Similar to the Poker Masters, the player who wins the most in the series will take the U.S. Poker Open champion title and receive a special trophy.

Daniel Negreanu, who had partnered with Poker Central in the past, is likely to be in attendance for the U.S. Poker Open. He has already stressed the importance of mixed games in poker and expects even the fans to come out big winners. Negreanu told Poker Central, “What you’re going to see is – and if you’re a poker fan then I would imagine you are interested in improving your game – is truly the best of the best competing every day during this series. You’re not going to be able to see poker at this level anywhere else.”

U.S Poker Open Schedule:

The $1 Million Red Spade Open Returns to PokerStars Dec. 4

After a long hiatus, online giant PokerStars is bringing back the popular $1 million guaranteed Red Spade Open on December 4. PokerStars launched the event just six months after the dreaded Black Friday in 2011, and began with a $55 buy-in $1 million guaranteed prize pool with $200,000 first-place prize reserved for the winner. This year’s first place purse has not been disclosed as of now.

The event went on to become a staple tournament at PokerStars hosted every autumn since 2011 but did not take place in 2016. The high value tournament is now back in the Events tab of the PokerStars client with satellites already running.

With the $55 buy-in, this tournament offers immense value and the event must register 20,000 entries including rebuys to cover the massive guarantee.

The tournament traditionally had another enticing feature as it offered bounties for knocking out any Team Pro or Team Online member. It is yet unclear if the return of the Red Spade Open will offer bounties again, and if so, for how many and for how much. The bounties started off at $100 but were bumped up to $250 in 2014 and then to $500 in 2015 (there were over 50 bounties up for grabs in the field).

Steven van Zadelhoff & Rolf Slotboom Inducted Into Dutch Poker Hall of Fame

The coveted Dutch Poker Hall of Fame added two new members recently in Steven van Zadelhoff and Rolf Slotboom. The duo was honored for their exceptional performance in the game along with their contribution to the popularity of poker in the Netherlands. Both received a lithograph designed by Henk Schiffmacher during the Master Classics of Poker at Holland Casino Amsterdam.

Steven “SvZff” van Zadelhoff started off creating waves at the online poker tables more than 10 years ago. He also won the unofficial world championship of online poker – WCOOP Main Event this year for over $1.6 million.

Rolf Slotboom on the other hand is one of the first professional poker players from Netherlands and has traveled all over Europe to play when poker was not that popular in his country. An active player and columnist, he also directed one of the largest poker magazines in Europe. That’s not all, as a spokesperson for the Dutch Poker Federation; he was actively involved in the process of legalization of online poker in the Netherlands.

Three Dutch poker sites founded the Dutch Poker Hall of Fame in 2015 with the aim of highlighting the best-known Dutch poker players. The initiative was embraced by Holland Casino, which included the announcement as part of the largest poker tournament in the Netherlands – The Master Classics of Poker.

In the first year, Marcel Lüske, Noah Boeken, and Jorryt van Hoof were named as the first Hall of Famers and in 2016; Rob Hollink, Lex Veldhuis and Peter Voolstra joined the elite club.
