Blockchain poker is set to gain a bigger foreground in international poker. The first-ever World Crypto Con is being hosted at the Aria in Las Vegas from October 31 to November 2 and may feature a big line-up of celebrity guests. Alongside the conference, a poker tournament will be held, bringing live action and blockchain technology together.
While the exact roster of celebrity poker players who will attend hasn’t been revealed yet, some of the stars expected to participate include Phil Hellmuth, a regular at Aria as well as Vegas residents Daniel Negreanu and Antonio Esfandiari.
Blockchain technology has been making inroads into online poker lately. Firms like Virtue Poker have been using decentralized smart contracts to change the way sites handle their data. Currently poker sites use random number generators to ensure their games are fair. However, the software has also evoked criticism for the fact that it’s not open to the public and susceptible to corruption.
To combat this limitation, Blockchain technology supporters advocate decentralization for processing data. A Crypto Poker Club summary explains the mechanics of its system. “We utilize quantum natural phenomena (via Photons) to generate completely random strings of numbers. On the other, we use Bitcoin Network’s Hashes as an unknown, unpredictable entropy source to initiate a PRNG sequence. Together, we reshuffle the deck multiple times to provide the ultimate way of truly randomly generating numbers.”
Blockchain-based poker sites claim to be more secure and offer faster payouts, in addition to improving the randomness of games. The technology is still new, however, and yet to break into the mainstream, which is why the World Crypto Con is a serious effort in the direction of popularizing this new technology.
