How good would a game of poker be, if there was no action and drama associated with it? The domestic and the International poker circuits were rife with humor filled and shocking moments over the past few days. In the domestic poker circuit, after a number of poker players came out in open about their experiences dealing with Vikram Singh, he came out with a funny and hilarious video response, posted on YouTube.
Meanwhile, poker icon Doyle Brunson is back in news for all the wrong reasons. Brunson’s recent Twitter post where he shared a photograph of his new Cadillac Escalade and thanked the players who lost to him at the Bobby’s Room in the Bellagio this summer, wasn’t taken very well by several people.
Aussie pro and WSOP bracelet winner Jackie Glazier has been voted off the reality television show Survivor Australia after a stint of 26 days, and poker commentator Mike Sexton has called for use of metal detectors to avoid incidents like the horrific mass shootout at the EA Sports-sanctioned tournament in Jacksonville.
Vikram ‘Prison Mike’ Singh who had earlier announced that he’s coming up with a poker training site, ‘thepokerfederation.com’, has faced some big heat on social media lately. A lot of players from the Indian poker community came out on Facebook groups narrating their stories of their dealings with Singh.
We would not have carried this story had not Singh eventually responded with a video that turned out to be quite hilarious. Titled ‘Where the fuk is Prison Mike,’ the video is a clip from the 2007 movie on Adolf Hitler, ‘Mein Fuhrer’ and Singh has super-imposed sub-titles over a scene showing Hitler shouting at his men.
In the video sub-titles, Singh aka ‘Prison Mike’ talks about how some people in two groups on Facebook i.e. The Players Group (TPG) and the Indian Poker Players’ Association (IPPA) were annoyed by him. All that they had to do, the sub-titles read, was ask him for a refund. “Mike was there to give them a new training site” and by trolling him, they spoiled it too, he wrote, adding, ‘you bite other people just for a laugh.’

Poker legend Doyle Brunson made quite a splash at the 2018 World Series of Poker (WSOP) this year, where he reappeared after five years and finished sixth in his favorite WSOP event, the No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship. But this is not why he’s grabbing our attention this time. Brunson has just bought himself a brand new Cadillac Escalade, and he has all the players he beat in the Bobby’s Room in the Bellagio, Las Vegas this summer to thank for!
Taking to Twitter, the 85-year old patriarch who has 10 WSOP bracelets and one WPT title under his belt showed off his new wheels in style.
I want to thank all the players who lost money in Bobby’s Room this summer. This new Escalade is from their generosity. 😂😂😂pic.twitter.com/8tCRi2hw2G

Brunson’s tweet evoked many wows and comments from the Twitterati.
I’m so glad you didn’t retire and kept with this great sense of humor.
Thank you for make me laughing a a lot today (only because my money is not in that escalada) 🤣🤣
Keep rolling!— Vini Barbosa (@vinibarbosabr) August 28, 2018
Not everyone however, reacted positively and some were quite sarcastic in their response.
To thank people who lost money seem to me so stupid…definitively you re a great player but for the rest.. I guess it s your age

How much did @GusHansen chip in? Wondering if it still “is going to be a great summer”?

Brunson responded to the Twitter user, le touché philippe’s comment.
Almost a 1,000 responses and yours was the only negative one. You got no sense of humor le touche. https://t.co/amEmI71PFb

Brunson may have semi-retired from poker but hasn’t lost his funny bone for sure!
Australian poker pro Jackie Glazier had announced last month that she would be participating in the new season of Survivor Australia. Her time on the show however has now run out. Earlier this week, Glazier was voted out by her own tribe midway through the game becoming the 11th contestant to leave the show on Day 26.
She took to Twitter to talk about her experience on the show.
The only thing I hate more than losing is being a bad sport. Well played tribe. Much respect xx pic.twitter.com/6iiV0b1cTg

The WSOP bracelet winner received an outpouring of support from her fans and followers on social media.
Reallllly disappointed to see @JackieGlazier leave the game before the merge. Oh the damage she could have done with some numbers! 😈. Loved every moment of you time on the show Jackie. Absolute lock for all stars!

Speaking with TV Week regarding her 26-day stay on the reality television show, Glazier said, “At the end of the day you really can’t trust anyone through to then end, so the questions is at what point are they going to turn on me? It’s not if they turn on me, it’s when. It’s a strange social experiment pretty much, but you don’t normally live that way in day-to-day life. I’m not out there questioning what people say to me in the real world. I’m just disappointed I had an opportunity to take control of the game and I missed it.”
Talking about her overall experience, she added, “I’ve been a fan since day one so to actually even just… I’m so grateful for the opportunity to even have been out there. What an amazing experience to have!”
On August 26, the eSports community was shocked to the core when a competitor at a Madden tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, opened fire at the other participants. The aftermath revealed that he had killed three people including himself. It has been speculated that the shooting rampage was a result of the gamer’s elimination from the EA Sports-sanctioned tournament.
The mass shooting was captured on live stream and resonated with some members of the poker fraternity. Poker Hall of Famer Mike Sexton stated on Twitter that metal detectors are now needed in many public spaces in America.
It’s a sad state of affairs but it should be obvious by now that if we want to curb senseless shootings (inside buildings anyway), we need to install metal detectors at every school, arena, & store/building where there is substantial traffic. #toomanynutcases#solutionsneeded
— Mike Sexton (@Mike_partypoker) August 27, 2018
Although, he did not directly mention poker, but his tweet implied casinos too need to upgrade their security provisions. “Sadly, I’ve always worried about some poker player who went broke or felt he got a bad ruling to come back and start blasting. It’s a concern,” Sexton told Card Player. “I predict casinos will all go to metal detectors in the not too distant future.”
While the poker community has never been at the centre of mass shootings, the October 1, 2017 massacre at a country music concert off the Las Vegas Strip, took nearly 60 lives and hit the Mecca of world poker, Las Vegas.
