In this edition of the PokerGuru Weekly News Update you can read about the brand new India Poker Championship tournament schedule, the escalating Casino Royale Bad Beat Jackpot, IPS POY winner surprise, and Vivek Rajkumar’s epic L.A. Poker Classic WPT run.

New IPC Tournament Schedule

The India Poker Championship has announced a refreshed and exciting poker tournament schedule which will take place at Casino Royale in Panjim, Goa from 7^th to 10^th April 2011. After one year of running the standard tournament formats, IPC has decided to shake things up just a bit:

The 6k Double Bubble Tournament – 7^th April – 5000 T-chips – This event has a buy-in of Rs.6000 out of which ₹5000 goes into the main prizepool and ₹1000 from each buy-in is collected in a separate pool. Every time there are 20 registered participants, that accounts for 1 seat into the 20k Big Game on Sat night. For example, there are 100 players in the Thursday tournament, which is enough money for 5 seats into the Saturday night Big Game.Players battle to break through the Money bubble and once that is done then the fight continues to burst the Seat bubble, hence the name Double Bubble tournament.

The 10k Friday Night Tournament – 8^th April – 7500 T-chips – The classic 10k weekend kickoff game.

The 20k Big Game – 9^th April – 10000 T-chips – The Big Game = The Biggest buy-in = The Biggest prizepool of the weekend.

The 12k Headhunters Tournament – 10^th April – 6500 T-chips – This is a combination of the bounty and rebuy formats with a slight twist. There is no re-buy option instead there is a re-entry which means a player must lose all his/her chips in order to re-enter the tournament. ₹10000 from each buy-in goes into the main prizepool and for every player that one knocks out, a Headhunter bounty of 2000 is paid out. Re-entries are only available during the first 3 levels of play.

Casino Royale Card Room’s Bad Beat Jackpot climbs to a monstrous Rs. 14,43,550 and keeps going

The Royale Poker Room was filled with action during the IPS Chapter 5 which boosted the Bad Beat Jackpot to more than ₹14 Lakhs with a record high of ₹15 Lakhs in sights! No Limit Holdem tables with stakes ₹100-200 and ₹200-500 qualify for a shot at the Jackpot and the only requirement is that you lose with Aces full of Jacks or a better hand. In addition, there is a 10% payout for a Royal Straight Flush! Mukul Chadda is the surprizing IPS 2010-2011 Player of the Year Winner

Mukul Chadda came to the IPS Chapter 5 for some free poker game tournament action and to take a shot at a good payday but he was never aiming for the IPS POY crown. When the IPS chapter 5 started Mukul was in 13^th place with one 5k Rebuy IPS title from the October 2010 Series and only a tourney win would boost him past the leader Aditya “Mastermind” Agarwal. Chadda got that tourney win right away in the 5k Rebuy Event which had 97 runners giving him enough points to narrowly surpass the top leaderboard player. Aditya “Mastermind” Agarwal did not manage to regain the lead throughout the series and Mukul became the first IPS POY winner and can also proudly claim the title of rebuy tournament specialist. 2^nd place and $ 908,730 for Vivek Rajkumar in WPT L.A. Poker Classic

Indian born poker player Vivek Rajkumar, who currently resides in Las Vegas, had a chance at a second WPT title at the 2011 L.A. Poker Classic but came just a bit short. He took second place for an incredible payday of $908,730 which puts his tournament career winnings at close to $4 million. He had to battle a tough WPT final table which included seasoned veteran Carlos Mortensen and online poker legend Steve Gross. Watch out for Vivek Rajkumar during the WSOP 2011 to represent India!
