PokerStars is making up to players who were affected by the sudden disruption of online tournaments from August 12 to August 14, owing to Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. The online poker giant has announced over $650,000 in freerolls to be given away as tournament tickets across all major markets to players who played real money games on the site during the duration of the disruption.

Each of these affected players will receive three freeroll tickets and they can expect these tickets to be credited to their accounts soon.

However, despite reports of disconnections from a few players in India and New Jersey, no freerolls have been announced for them. Since PokerStars does not have permission to run freerolls in Portugal and the Czech Republic due to local regulations, affected players in these countries will also not be eligible to take part in this giveaway promotion.

A total of five freerolls will run each day, from August 22 to August 26 in the global player pool, each with $100,000 in prizes. On the PokerStars Europe client, freerolls worth €20,000 and on the Italian client, freerolls worth €10,000 will be hosted.

While PokerStars is yet to make an official announcement on this yet, the freerolls tournament description on PokerStars client reads, “We sincerely apologize for the recent disruption to your play. This is one of five $100,000 freerolls to say thanks for your patience.

“Everyone who played real money on 12-14 August will receive a ticket that can be used up to three times to enter a Players Freeroll.”

PokerStars first faced a DDoS attack on August 12 and with many players disconnecting from the tables, all tournaments were cancelled. Another DDoS attack occurred on August 13 as well and disruptions on PokerStars continued till August 15. PokerStars acknowledged the DDoS attacks on August 15 and issued a statement that the issue was resolved and nearly all players were issued refunds.

For now, the player freerolls are being offered in the poker clients with access to the global player pool, as well as the Southern European network.

The freerolls will offer tickets to major tournament series, the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) in PokerStars.com, in PokerStars Europe players will get tickets to the Galactic Series, while in Italy players will receive tickets that can be used in tournaments on the daily tournament schedule.

On the global player pool, each freeroll will award at least 5,840 players across various buy-in levels for WCOOP and the top prize i.e. a $5,200 WCOOP Main Event Championship seat will be awarded to the winner of the freeroll.
