Global poker giant and industry leader PokerStars has always been on the forefront of poker innovation by providing its player base with fresh and updated variants of online poker games. In that vein, PokerStars may be gearing up to launch its latest poker variant – Split Omaha.

What is Split Omaha?

In March 2018, PokerStars had released a double-board game titled ‘Split Hold’em’. Like any other double-board game, Split Hold’em had two full flops, turns and rivers that were simultaneously dealt at the appropriate times. In order to win the entire pot, a player needed to show down a winning hand on both boards or force all of his or her opponents to fold before showdown. A player showing down a winner on one board was entitled to half the pot.

According to reports published by PokerFuse, the new variant Split Omaha bears a strong resemblance in graphics to its predecessor. It is possible that just like Split Hold’em, the Omaha variant will also reward the best hand on each board with half the pot; the only difference that players will be holding four cards instead of two.

The action frenzy Omaha format will reach new levels in this action-inducing format as with four cards to play, players will find it easier to make stronger hands on more than one board.

Double-board Omaha can be found in some home games, and according to PokerFuse, it’s also played in some rare Las Vegas live games.

Previous Variants Launched by PokerStars

In 2018, PokerStars had released a string of new poker variants in order to spice up the player experience. A majority of the variants launched were heavily based around the hold’em format including Split Hold’em, Showtime Hold’em, Unfold, Fusion and more recently 6+ Hold’em.

The global poker giants last release 6+ Hold’em came in relatively late as the variant had already become quite popular among the high-stakes community by the time the format was made live on the PokerStars client. Given its success, ,many assumed that 6+ would become a permanent fixture on PokerStars just like Zoom and Spin & Gos, but recently PokerStars sent out an email to its players reminding them the game is “available for a limited time only.”

Well with that hint it is fair to assume that 6+ could very soon be replaced with Split Omaha in the days to come!
