As the first ever PokerStars Festival Manila continues it’s onwards march, Team India continues to impress with deep runs. This time it was Siddharth Singhvi who clinched the sixth title for the team by shipping the ₱16,500 No-Limit Hold’em – Bubble Rush event outlasting the 66-entry field for ₱280,000.

Meanwhile, the highest buy-in event of the series i.e. ₱215,000 High Roller with Shot Clock also crowned a champion and outlasting the 47-entry field was Australian player Peter Plater, who pocketed ₱3,100,000 for his finish. The series also saw Daniel Benor and Boon Tan winning side event titles.

215,000 High Roller with Shot Clock

The ₱215,000 High Roller saw 47 total entrants (11 re-entries) taking the prize pool to ₱9,118,000. Besting the field was 37-year-old Australian Peter Plater, who walked away with the first-place prize of ₱3,100,000.

He came in with a short stack and just wanted to walk away with anything. “Fold to the money,” that was his strategy.

Plater said “I had no intent to play the High Roller tournament. The big buy-in events are a little bit too high for me. I like playing the 400 and 500-dollar events. I was a bit lucky just before I came. I won a tournament just before I came so I had a little extra money than I usually do, so I thought, I’ll give it a go, the satellite. And the rest is history.”

The Day 1 chip leader Tom Orpaz started the day with over 200,000 chips, but they didn’t last with him for long. Within the first two hours of play he had lost everything and was eliminated.

Sparrow Cheung and Alan Lau, are both chasing points for the Asia Player of the Year Leaderboard. Both pros entered on as well, but fell before the money.

PokerStars sponsored player Celine Lee was the unfortunate bubble girl of the High Roller.

Final Table Recap

Falling at the High Roller final table was former World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Mansour Matloubi in eighth place.

First to fall of the final six was Timofey Asmolov followed by Jun Obara who exited in fifth place.

Obara’s fellow countryman Yo Seb Rhee was next to go and the next casualty of the table came in Hermann Lee to set up the heads-up battle between Sathesh Kumar Muthu and Plater with both relatively evenly stacked.

Plater offered Muthu a deal for even money, leaving ₱400,000 to play for along with the trophy, but the eventual runner-up refused and the play resumed.

Eventually, Plater got Muthu all in holding an over pair, while Plater just held mid pair. Plater hit a runner-runner straight on the board to lock up the title.
