Live MTT players have an excellent reason to visit Europe, with the European Poker Tour Sochi coming up at Casino Sochi, Russia, from March 18 – 27. While the full-blown schedule is yet to be announced, the brand’s India-facing arm, PokerStars India, has put up an irresistible incentive for players itching to attend a top-notch international event.

PokerStars India players can win an all-expenses-paid package to EPT Sochi worth ₹4 Lakhs through any of the three qualifiers. The ₹5,500 buy-in qualifiers are slotted for 9:30 PM on January 30, February 6, and 13, with the site running a 15 seats GTD Freebuy satellite for each qualifier every Sunday. You could essentially win a ₹4 Lakhs worth Main Event package for FREE!

The EPT Sochi Main Event ticket worth ~ ₹2.57 Lakhs (including TDS) will be reserved for the qualifier winners at the venue, whereas the other expenses worth ₹1.43 Lakhs will be credited to their Poker Stars India account.

Currently, two headline attractions of the series have been unveiled.

> EPT Sochi Main Event (March 22 – 27) – Buy-in: RUB 175,000

> EPT National NLHE (March 18 – 21) – Buy-in: RUB 77,000

EPT Sochi Calling!

Launched in 2004, the EPT was acquired by PokerStars in 2011. The brand wholly owns and sponsors the series rebranded as the PokerStars Championship in 2017. However, it reverted back to its original name in 2018.

EPT Sochi returned to the live circuit in March last year, and 23-year-old Russian pro Artur Martirosian championed the EPT Sochi Main Event for ₽24,633,000 (~$325,316).

For the fast-growing Indian poker community, the European Poker Tournament (EPT) Sochi has always been a preferred international poker destination.

In 2018, two Indian players, Vivek Rughani and Alok Birewar attended the series and returned with FT finishes. Birewar placed third in the $550 NLHE for $12,000 (₹7.80 Lakhs), and Rughani bubbled the final table in the same event, finishing ninth for $2,500 (₹1.62 Lakhs).

Rughani posted another deep run in the $1K NLHE, finishing eighth for $4,500 (₹2.92 Lakhs).

A big team of Indians was seen in action in 2019, with the likes of India`s first WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant and PokerGuru Ambassadors Jayjit Ray and Kartik Ved in attendance. Ved returned with a fourth-place finish in the EPT National for ₽ 3,059,000 ($47,668).

Last year, several top-notch players, including Paawan Bansal and the two-time POY Young Gun Gaurav Sood, attended the series while skipping the WSOP owing to travel restrictions. Both the players posted deep runs. Bansal finished sixth in Event #26: ₽32.2K NLHE for ₽539,000 ($7,506), while Sood cashed thrice, and his most prominent score was a ninth-place finish in Event #28 ₽32.2K PLO – Bounty for ₽77,000 ($1,073).
