The two most popular poker variants the world over are coming together in a unique new game variant. In the array of different poker variants launched by the PokerStars this year, the online gaming giant is adding another: Fusion Poker.

While Fusion Poker has been talked of for some time now, the launch of the latest variant was officially announced on the PokerStars blog on Tuesday.

Director of poker innovation and operations for The Stars Group (TSG), Severin Rasset explained the idea behind Fusion. “We want to give our players games that they have never played before and bring a unique offering to the table.”

He added, “Fusion mixes two well-loved formats together giving an exciting twist to the game. We eagerly await player feedback and look forward to seeing everyone joining the tables, and giving Fusion a try.”

What is Fusion Poker?

The game was in-development stage, and was first reported in May. Fusion as the name suggests will merge the gaming techniques of PLO and NLHE. There was speculation that Fusion would have a format similar to the classic Irish Poker on Full Tilt that begins Omaha style with four cards, but two of them are tossed away by the player after the flop.

While this is correct, it is rather the other way around that the game plays out. It begins like any other Hold’em game and later takes on an Omaha flavor.

Each player receives two cards in the game followed by the usual Hold ‘em round of betting and then the flop arrives. Here on, the game alters, since each player receives a third hole card at this point. The action continues and any player left after the turn receives another card, completing the hold cards into a four-card Omaha hand.

PokerStars in its blog stated, “Every street adds a layer of super-charged theory. Every new hole card multiplies the possibilities.”

Other Poker Variants Launched by PokerStars Recently

Interestingly, PokerStars has been up and at it in terms of bringing new poker innovations and 2018 has seen several new variants pop up on the site, beginning with Split Hold ‘em, followed by Showtime Hold ‘em and Unfold. Finally, it is Fusion that is the latest poker game for players to try out and play.

The game is available over betting limits that range from $0.02/$0/$0.05 with a $3 buy-in right up to $25/$50 with a $5,000 buy-in. It is accessible only in cash game format but unfortunately, the variant is not yet available on the PokerStars India client.
