Red Dragon Manila: Campomanes Ships the Main Event, Sapra Scores in the Red Dragon Poker Challenge; 4 Indians Make Day 2 in ₱250K High Roller

The inaugural PokerStars LIVE Red Dragon Manila has been a fantastic one for Philippines’ Florencio Campomanes! After finishing runner-up in the ₱500,000 Red Dragon Super High Roller for ₱3,599,000, Campomanes went on to become the first player to claim a Platinum Pass in 2020 after he won a Flipout contest. The poker pro has added yet another accolade to his list of achievements by taking down the ₱110K Main Event ₱50 Million GTD for an impressive ₱13,815,070!

Joining Campomanes on the podium was Meng Guo, who emerged victorious in the ₱60,000 Red Dragon Poker Challenge, becoming the first female winner of the Red Dragon Manila Series. She also clinched her career-first PokerStars LIVE title along with first-place prize money of ₱3,059,900.

Team India has also continued its thundering performance at the series. APL Ambassador Sumit Sapra posted a 19th place finish in the Red Dragon Poker Challenge for ₱166,000 (~₹2.33 Lakhs).

Meanwhile, four Indian contenders, namely Dhaval Mudgal (199,000), Ankit Ahuja (128,000), Kanishka Samant (109,000), and Sahil Agarwal (108,000), also made Day 2 of ₱250,000 Red Dragon High Roller. In fact, Mudgal bagged the seventh-largest stack among the 33 Day 1 survivors, while Malaysian player Natalie Teh emerged as the end-of-day chip leader with 582,500 chips.

The final nine players returned for the third and final day of the ₱110K Main Event led by Xijie Sun.

Florencio Campomanes and Zejin Shen rounded out the top three stacks.

Final Table Recap

Andres Korn was the first player on the final table to hit the rail, and he was followed out by Denmark’s Martin Stausholm in eighth place.

Chinese players Yufei Hui and Xijie Sun were next to depart in seventh and sixth places, respectively.

Filipino Gerardo Lubas Jr. busted out in fifth place, while Tao Chen was eliminated in fourth place.

Zejin Shen‘s third-place exit set up the heads-up clash between Florencio Campomanes and Tetsuro Tomita. The former held a commanding 8:1 chip lead against his Japanese rival. Though Tomita fought hard, even securing two doubles ups, it wasn’t enough to bring him the title, which was eventually claimed by Campomanes.

On the final hand, Campomanes jammed with and Tomita called with his last 1 Million, holding . The runout gave Campomanes a rivered full house to clinch the title and the ₱13,815,070 up top!

60,000 Red Dragon Poker Challenge

Running from January 9 to 10, the ₱60,000 buy-in Red Dragon Poker Challenge attracted 376 entries, generating a prize pool of ₱19,694,880.

Trouncing the field to become the first female champion of the Red Dragon Manila Series was China’s Meng Guo. She claimed her first PokerStars LIVE title and the trophy, along with a ₱3,059,900 payday.

Indian pro and APL Ambassador Sumit Sapra also ran deep in the event, picking up a 19th place finish for ₱166,000 (~₹2.33 Lakhs).

The first day of the two-day-long ₱250,000 Red Dragon High Roller drew 101 entrants, creating ₱23,022,950 in the prize pool kitty. The top 13 spots are slated to finish in the money and will receive a min-cash of ₱460,000. The winner will walk away with a top prize of ₱6,112,000.

It seems like women players were dominating the day at the Red Dragon Manila Series as Malaysia’s Natalie Teh bagged the overnight chip lead with a stack of 582,500. She will be leading the 33 Day 1 survivors to Day 2.

Team India’s Dhaval Mudgal has also made it into the top ten stacks at the end of Day 1 and will return on Day 2 with the seventh-largest stack of 199,000.

The starting flight of the ₱30,000 DeepStack NLH Single Re-Entry pulled in 72 entries, and only nine players made it through to Day 2, with China’s Yuwen Pan grabbing the pole position.
