Last month, online poker conglomerate – PokerStars – had announced its partnership with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), following which the poker brand had rebranded its popular Spin & Go Tournaments to carry the UFC branding. Taking this partnership even further, PokerStars has expanded its ambassadorial team to include three of UFC’s most popular faces.
PokerStars has recently announced that it has signed official Octagon announcer Bruce Buffer, UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and Light Heavyweight fighter Johnny Walker, as Team Ambassadors. These three will be representing the online poker operator alongside their UFC duties such as promoting joint innovations between the two companies.
Talking about PokerStars partnership with the UFC, Chief Marketing Officer at Stars Interactive, Christopher Coyne said, “We can’t wait to bring more new experiences to our fans as we develop our partnership with UFC. Expect to see these major stars getting involved in promotions, events, campaigns, content and more.”
This partnership will undoubtedly help PokerStars broaden its audience base by including the UFC-loving American audience since Buffer and Cormier are US citizens, it will also booster its global aid efforts.
Expressing his delight on the addition of the three new ambassadors, Coyne further added, “To have such exciting names joining team PokerStars further epitomizes our partnership with UFC as we look to bring the thrill of the Octagon closer to our customers.”
PokerStars Team pro Andre Akkari commented on how poker and MMA are the ideal combination for each other, “For me and for many Brazilians, poker and MMA are passions. To give poker fans opportunities to engage with the UFC and to give UFC fans more ways to engage with what they love is really exciting.”
Out of three new additions, Buffer, possibly has the strongest connection to poker as he has been a lifelong poker fan and player. He had also opened the historic PokerStars Player’s No-Limit Hold ’em Championships (PSPC) in the Bahamas earlier this year and is known to be an ardent admirer of poker legend and PokerStars Team pro Chris Moneymaker.
“This partnership brings together two heavyweights of the entertainment world and, luckily for me, two of my great passions,” said Buffer. “I’ve been a poker player all my life. I’m a regular at the tables in my hometown and I remember seeing Moneymaker’s legendary performance back in 2003 right before he became a member of team PokerStars. To join him alongside this great line-up of athletes and poker pros is a great honor for me.”
Walker also talked about the similar challenges that poker players and fighters face, “I’m thrilled to represent PokerStars on their journey with the UFC. I love a challenge and any opportunity to sharpen my game. PokerStars are the best at what they do. Just like the UFC. It makes sense to bring such world class acts together to offer more exciting opportunities to fans around the world.”
Besides its partnership with the UFC, PokerStars has also joined hands with FOX Sports, earlier this month, in a landmark 25-year partnership which has been forged under the banner of ‘Fox Bet.’ There is no doubt that the online poker giant has a lot more to offer in the coming days.
