It will be a proud moment for the entire Indian poker fraternity when President of India Ram Nath Kovind will felicitate professional poker pro Muskan Sethi (cover image), along with 99 other women achievers from across the country next month (date and venue to be announced).
The awards will be conferred on those women who have been the first to make a career in primarily male-dominated professions. Sethi, who has already carved a niche of her own in the Indian poker circuit, will be honored for being ‘India’s First Woman to Play Professional Poker’. The selection was done by Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi, Union Cabinet Minister of Women & Child Development.
Sethi has been pursuing poker professionally with tremendous dedication, perseverance and hard work amassing over $44K in live scores and over $100K in online results till August this year.
PokerGuru spoke with Sethi who said,“I was officially contacted by the Ministry of Women and Child Development of our country in July. They informed me that I was selected to receive this honor and I still can’t believe it. It’s hard to express how I feel, my journey so far is flashing before my eyes, feeling blessed and really looking forward”.
Playing since the past seven years, this social worker and sports enthusiast lists Phil Ivey, Vanessa Selbst and Liv Boeree as her poker idols. The ever-jovial lady has even received support from Boeree, besides poker coaching from Grayson Nichols and mental coaching from Elliot Roe.
Sethi has already taken giant strides in international poker tournaments and holds the distinction of being the sole Indian woman player in attendance at the World Series Of Poker (WSOP) in 2013. She made the annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas for the sixth time this year playing alongside the largest-ever Indian contingent at the series.
Sethi also captured all her experiences in a Video Blog named ‘Memoirs of Baby Shark’ bringing them back to life for posterity as the country got its first bracelet winners this year in Nipun Java and Aditya Sushant.
That’s not all as among her many exploits she also holds the rare distinction of qualifying for the PokerStars Shark Cage event in 2014 where she went on to finish runner-up.
Last year, this Shark Cage girl also became the first poker-lady from India to begin streaming live on Twitch when she interviewed none other than the country’s pioneering poker player – Team PokerStars Pro Aditya ‘Adi Agarwal’ Agarwal on her first streaming session.
Sethi was recently also announced as the manager for the first ever GPL India’s Delhi Diehards and is equally excited for the upcoming extravaganza.
