With the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) less than two weeks away, fantasy sports operators have been churning out sponsorship deals at breakneck speed to encash on the massively popular cricket league. The most recent eminent personality to join this list is Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh! The Gully Boy star has been roped in by My11Circle.
My11Circle was launched in 2019 by Games24x7 that also operates the rummy platform RummyCircle and casual games studio Ultimate Games. My11Circle offers fantasy games for cricket, hockey, football, kabaddi, and basketball. The fantasy sports platform reportedly has 70 million users and is backed by marquee investors like Tiger Global and The Raine Group.
Singh is the fifth celebrity brand ambassador appointed by the company and the first-ever mainstream Bollywood actor to promote a fantasy sports app. He joins an impressive lineup of My11Circle ambassadors like cricketing stars Sourav Ganguly, Shane Watson, and Rashid Khan.
Less than a week ago, the Games24x7-owned portal had announced the joining of Indian Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman.
Talking about onboarding Singh as a brand ambassador for My11Circle, co-founder and CEO of Games24x7 (the parent company of My11Circle), Bhavin Pandya said, “Films and cricket are two of India’s biggest passions. With the start of the T20 season, we are extremely proud to have Ranveer Singh on board. His energy, passion for cricket, and excellence at his craft epitomize young and aspirational India. The new campaign led by Ranveer Singh will be a tribute to young Indians and their ardour for the game.”
The multi-award-winning actor, who will be portraying former Indian all-rounder Kapil Dev in the yet-to-be-released movie ’83,’ also shared his excitement about becoming a brand ambassador. Elaborating on the same, he said, “As a cricket aficionado, I am excited to be a part of the latest My11Circle campaign, which celebrates the fervour of the Indian cricket fan. Forming teams comprising the best players is one of the most engaging pursuits for cricket fans like me. It provides an immense vicarious thrill and calls upon one to use one’s knowledge of the sport derived from skilled analysis of past performances and playing conditions. I hope that this creative and energetic campaign will extend the awesome game-playing experiences on My11Circle to more sports enthusiasts.”
Vice President of My11Circle, Saroj Panigrahi, also commented on this latest association, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Ranveer Singh to the Games24x7 family. His unmatched energy and commitment to entertain reflects My11Circle’s brand philosophy. Over 17 million sports enthusiasts have enjoyed using their knowledge of the game to pit their wits against their heroes such as Sourav Ganguly, Shane Watson, Rashid Khan, and VVS Laxman. Our latest campaign, scheduled to be launched on April 6th on www.my11circle.com, is the perfect amalgam of entertainment and cricket skills and an earnest endeavour to make cricket fans feel special.”
It is no secret that the IPL season is the busiest time for fantasy sports companies, and after a slow 2020, the upcoming season promises to be grand. According to reports, traffic on most fantasy gaming portals increases ten-folds during the cash-rich T20 league.
Fantasy sports platforms have been all the rage recently. While Dream Sports raised $400 Million in a secondary funding round, reaching a $5 Billion valuation, Mobile Premier League (MPL) is on the verge of becoming India’s second gaming unicorn.
Among the slew of recent celebrity signups, West Indian batting legend and former Adda52 ambassador, Chris Gayle, was appointed as the brand ambassador by 10CRIC. Spin king Harbhajan Singh has also been roped in by Rummy Culture to headline their “Champions” campaign that also features tennis pro Mahesh Bhupathi, Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra, and World Billiards and Snooker Champion, Pankaj Advani.
With the 14th edition of the IPL set to start on April 9, having celebrities launch IPL-related campaigns seems to be the running theme. In a short YouTube video, Singh announced his joining My11Circle, while also hinting at the launch of a promotional campaign on April 6.
