The Casino Aruba at the Hilton Caribbean Resort recently played host to the World Series of Poker International Circuit series. The stop featured an eclectic mix of 10 WSOP gold ring events headlined by the $1,700 Main Event that boasted of a prize pool guarantee of $250,000.

The event witnessed 269 entries (133 Day 1A and 136 Day 1B), and the top 41 finishers were guaranteed a share of $407,535 prize pool. In the end, it was the dominant performance of Rick Troendly (cover image) that helped him win his first WSOP Circuit ring along with $95,061 in prize money and a seat into the 2020 Global Casino Championship.

It was a slow start for the recreational poker player who was one of the short stacks in the field with just three tables left. “I need to double up,” Troendly was reported telling one of his friends who came checking on him.

It was moments later that Troendly picked up pocket aces to eliminate an opponent, and the good run of cards continued for the rest of the day. Towards the final stages of the tournament, Troendly’s rail had started calling him the “flush boy” since three of the four players he eliminated on the final table was after making a flush.

Going into heads-up action, Troendly held a commanding 3-1 chip lead over Matt Russell, and it took less than 10 hands before all of the chips landed in the middle. Russell flopped top pair with a good kicker, but it was no good against Troendly`s flopped flush. With this win, Troendly collected his massive career score to date, nearly doubling his previous winnings.

Troendly can often be found playing cash games or small tournaments in the California area and will sometimes take a trip across the border to Las Vegas. He has tournament scores dating way back, as early as 1994, 25 years ago, but this will be one he will remember for a lifetime.

There were a slew of notables in the field and some of them who took a bite out of the prize pool were Kristy Arnett (11th for $6,237), Ray Henson (17th for $4,356), Jason James (22nd for $3,320), Debbie Hinton (23rd for $3,320), Heather Alcorn (25th for $3,000), Adam Cedric (29th for $2,774) and Garry Gates (41st for $2,541).
