WPT India 2018: Siddarth Singhvi Takes Down ₹20K Megastack Turbo For ₹5.71 Lakhs

The last event on the 2018 World Poker Tour (WPT) India schedule, i.e. the ₹20K Megastack Turbo, has crowned a champion in New Delhi-based pro Siddarth Singhvi (cover image). Dominating a field of 99 entries, Singhvi traiblazed his way to the top and clinched his maiden WPT title and ₹5.71 Lakhs in prize money.

Singhvi’s career-first score came in the ₹12,000 No Limit Hold’em – Bounty at the 2012 PokerGuru Tour Season 2 – March Edition, where he finished seventh for ₹25,000. Since then, he has accumulated more than 10 cashes in both the domestic and international circuits. His most notable score came in the ₱16,500 No Limit Hold’em – Bubble Rush at the 2017 PokerStars Festival Manila, where he won his first live title for ₱280,000 (₹3.81 Lakhs).

The fast-paced events had lured many circuit regulars in to the fray, but only 13 managed to finish in the money, namely Randeep Lather (11th for ₹1,500), Ranjeet Negi (12th for ₹51,500) and MadOverPoker pro Zarvan Tumboli (13th for ₹46,780).

Rubin Labroo (10th for ₹51,500) bubbled the final table.

Final Table Recap

The nine-player final table commenced with many well-known faces contending for the top prize. Amongst the lot, Himanshu Arora was a relatively lesser-known player, with only one prior score in the 2017 Baadash Gaming Live Tournament, December edition, where he finished eighth for ₹30,800 in the ₹15,000 No Limit Hold’em – Bounty Event. Arora was the first elimination on the final table and finished in ninth place.

Siddharth Mishra followed Arora to the rail in eighth place.

Shashank Jain has been a part of the domestic poker community for a while now and has even added many international scores to his name, especially in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) where he has posted a total of 13 cashes, amounting to $52,815 (₹37.75 Lakhs) in earnings. Jain had also reached the final table of the ₹35K Superstack and finished eighth for ₹2.07 Lakhs. This was his second final table finish in the series and he ended his run in seventh place.

Another second-time final table finisher was Vinay Rajpal. The youngster had finished third in the ₹35K Superstack for ₹7.29 Lakhs. He added another ₹87,500 to his winnings tally with his sixth-place elimination.

With his only live score coming in the ₹35,000 No Limit Hold’em – Main Event of the 2018 Deltin Poker Tournament February edition, where he placed 14th for ₹1.23 Lakhs, Ankit Takle posted the second live score of his poker career in this event and exited in fifth place.

Winner of the 2017 Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) July Edition Main Event, Nitin Gupta is an old hand. He had featured in last year’s WPT India Main Event but busted out in 25th place for ₹2.12 Lakhs and failed to reach the final table. He had better luck this time round. While he did not cash in the Main Event, he did reach the final table of the ₹20K Megastack Turbo and placed fourth.

Down to three-handed play, Tathagata Sengupta was railed in third place, setting up the heads-up battle between Anant Purohit and Siddarth Singhvi.

It took no more than three to four hands for the final event of the series to conclude. On the final hand, Purohit moved all-in with and Singhvi called with . Singhvi hit a pair of nines on the flop which was good enough to secure Singhvi his first-ever WPT title, along with a hefty payout of ₹5.71 Lakhs.
