Sunday marked the beginning of 2023, and the new year brought a plethora of mouth-watering MTTs. While the big guns did come out guns blazing, a majority of the domestic poker players were still celebrating the new year (or recovering from hangovers), leading to a dip in traffic, resulting in overlays in most major flagships.

January 1 was undoubtedly Himanshu Arora‘s day as he traversed across the 933-entry field in Sunday’s biggest guaranteed flagship, PokerBaazi’s ₹1 Crore GTD The MoneyMaker, claiming the title for the first time and taking home a massive ₹13.98 Lakhs (his second-best score on the site). He ITM-ed eight more tournaments, including a third-place finish in Spartan Poker’s Deepstack Turbo for ₹1.30 Lakhs, making away with ₹16.49 Lakhs in Sunday winnings. What a way to kick off the new year!

Laksh Pal Singh finished runner-up in the Roller Coaster for ₹4.19 Lakhs (won ₹5.13 Lakhs overall).

Sreekanth Narayan boosted his bankroll by ₹8.27 Lakhs on the back of three deep runs, including winning Spartan Poker’s Sunday headliner, the Sunday Superstack, for ₹7.66 Lakhs. Vivek Singh finished runner-up for ₹5.08 Lakhs (won ₹6.95 Lakhs overall).

PokerBaazi’s 1000X Series 2.0 commenced on Sunday, and the opening day showstopper, the 1000X Series#4 Sunday Prime, crowned a champion in Arvindhan Lakshminarayanan, who banked ₹4.81 Lakhs for his win, following a heads-up deal with ‘kishanrintu’ (2nd for ₹4.24 Lakhs).

Sahil Mahboobani won Adda52’s Carousel for ₹4.70 Lakhs, just as Utkarsh Somaaieyaa placed second for ₹2.84 Lakhs.
