PokerGO’s inaugural launch and the first tournament offering of the year, Stairway to Millions, entered the history books earlier today with the series finale, Event #8: $100K NLHE, playing down to a winner. Event #7 champion Nick Petrangelo went back-to-back to win the event for $1,026,000, riding his commanding chip lead to the finish line.

This second win is also Petrangelo’s fourth final-table finish at the series – the win fetching him his career’s fourth seven-figure score. He placed fifth in Event #4: $8K NLHE and followed that up with a runner-up finish in Event #6: $25K NLHE. With four incredible runs to his name, Petrangelo returned $1.80 Million richer from the series.

When asked if winning a title ever loses its charm, Petrangelo said – “No. It’s actually been a while since I had one like this. Well, I guess in the fall, I did well in a couple, but we play so much now that my memory is pretty short. Every time you win, it feels great. I was looking forward to this series, and I’m looking forward to playing a lot of live [poker] in general this year. So no, the short answer is that it never gets old. It’s awesome. I’m really happy and fortunate that I’m running well.”

Petrangelo underlined how being confident on the table was important. “Confidence in poker is a huge thing. It’s a real thing because oftentimes, you can get a little gunshy when you’re running bad – if you’re running big bluffs and everyone always has the nuts, or vice versa if you’re making calls and you’re just running into it all the time. Sometimes it can kind of mess with your head a little bit and make you second guess yourself. When everything is working out, and things are going well, and you’re making big hands, and the bluffs are getting through, it just helps you play better. It’s as simple as that.”

Final Table Chip Counts

  1. Nick Petrangelo – 2,305,000
  2. Sean Perry1,085,000
  3. David Peters – 410,000

Final Table Recap

Petrangelo lost some chips to David Peters and Sean Perry early on the final table. At one point early on Day 2, Sean Perry even took over the chip lead. However, by the end of the first hour of play, Petrangelo had reclaimed his chip advantage.

David Peters won a crucial hand that doubled him up, putting him ahead of the others.

Sean Perry lost a massive pot to Petrangelo, which left him crippled. And expectedly, he lost the last of his chips to Peters in the very next hand – his queen-nine falling to Peter’s eight-five that found a five on the flop.

The heads-up b/w David Peters (2.10 Million) and Petrangelo (1.70 Million) began with Peters holding a marginal chip lead. Petrangelo almost immediately climbed up to take charge, and it was all over in under 10 minutes. Both players were all-in, Peters with a pair of sixes and Petrangelo holding ace-ten of clubs. Petrangelo turned a flush to win the event, capping off a remarkable series!
