The nine-day long 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK came to an end with the £10,000 High Roller event, which pulled in 105 entries and crowned a winner in Colorado native Steve O’Dwyer (cover image).
O’Dwyer, who is presently ranked 11th on the All Time Money List, claimed his second title at the series after his previous victory at the £25K Super High Roller for £450,000. O’Dwyer eliminated the likes of Michael Zhang, Dominik Nitsche, Preben Stokkan and Gianluca Speranza from the final table on his road to victory, accumulating a total of £764,000 ($996,304) in the series.
With 11 places assured a min-cash of £22,500, Anton Wigg and Mustapha Kanit busted out empty-handed on Day 3.
Following the eliminations of Juan Pardo and Adrian Mateos, along with Uruguayan Fabrizio Gonzalez, the eight-player final table was formed.
Final Table Recap
UK’s Anthony Elliott and Portugal’s Joao Vieira were the first two casualties on the eight-handed final table. Elliot’s ace-jack failed to overpower Dominik Nitsche’s ace-king and the former was railed in eighth place, while Vieira’s ace-king were no match for Michael Zhang’s pocket eights resulting in his seventh place exit.
Next to go was Chris Brammer when his pocket tens lost out to countryman Zhang’s ace-queen and Brammer’s run ended in sixth place.
Michael Zhang failed to maintain his place at the felts for much longer. Zhang 4-bet jammed with ace-jack against Steve O’Dwyer’s pocket kings. Zhang flopped a pair of jacks, but it wasn’t enough, and he busted out in fifth place.
Finishing in fourth place was German pro Dominik Nitsche. He shoved all-in holding ace-deuce and O’Dwyer called with pocket rockets. With the board not running in his favour Nitsche was forced out from the final table.
Down to three-handed play, Preben Stokkan 4-bet called with pair of jacks and came up against O’Dwyer’s ace-king. The latter found a king on the turn and picked up a higher pair to end Stokkan’s tournament run in third place.
The heads-up confrontation between Italy’s Gianluca Speranza and American pro Steve O’Dwyer started with the latter taking a 2:1 chip lead. Over the course of the heads-up play, Speranza managed to chip up and came almost even to O’Dwyer. On the final hand of the event, Speranza called with and O’Dwyer tabled a pair of aces. As the runout missed both players, O’Dwyer’s aces held up and he went on to pick up his second title at the partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK series along with the top prize of £314,000.
