The two-day long £25,500 Super High Roller POWERFEST at the 2018 partypoker MILLIONS Dusk Till Dawn, Nottingham culminated into a 51-strong entry field which overshot the £1 million guarantee by £275,000. The competition was tough with the likes of Christoph Vogelsang, Aymon Hata and Niall Farrell featuring on the final table, but outlasting them all was American High Roller specialist Steve O’Dwyer (cover image), who claimed the trophy and the top prize worth £450,000.
Currently ranking ninth on the United States All Time Money List and 11th on the All Time Money List, O’Dwyer has been on a trailblazing streak. Starting from his victory at the $2,100 buy-in WCOOP event at PokerStars for $227,000 last month, O’Dwyer has now accumulated an astronomical $24,388,575 in total live winnings and $4,977,144 in online earnings.
Out of the 51 entrants, only 14 made the cut for Day 2 with the 2013 WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess topping the survivors. With only the top six finishers assured a min-cash of £60,000, surprisingly, Riess became the tournament’s bubble boy. He jammed with his king-ten against Aymon Hata‘s ace-deuce of spades. The board didn’t favour either player and Hata’s ace-kicker did the trick for him as Riess was eliminated in seventh place.
Final Table Recap
The first player to finish in the money was British pro Niall Farrell when he called all-in with ace-four of hearts against Christoph Vogelsang’s king-jack. The flop missed both players but a king on the turn put Vogelsang firmly ahead with top pair. The river was inconsequential, and Farrell bounced off in sixth place.
Almost immediately following the Englishman to the rail was Germany’s Aymon Hata. Hata moved all-in with a pair of eights but ran into Steve O’Dwyer’s ace-king. The latter flopped a king and Hata was railed in fifth place.
Finishing in fourth place was another German player, Christoph Vogelsang. O’Dwyer was once again in the midst of the action when he pitted his ace-king in a big hand against Vogelsang’s pocket kings. Unfortunately for Vogelsang, his kings were cracked when an ace fell on the flop giving O’Dwyer the upper hand, who later improved to a spades flush, resulting in Vogelsang’s exit.
Down to three-handed play, Turkey’s Orpen Kisacikoglu open-shoved from the button holding a pair of jacks and O’Dwyer called with . The river brought an ace and that spelled the end of Kisacikoglu in third place.
Steve O’Dwyer started the heads-up play against Uruguay’s Fabrizio Gonzalez with a commanding lead with 45,075,000 in chips, while the latter had only 6,250,000. Unable to overcome the massive chip deficit, Gonzalez busted out in the runner -up spot. On the final hand, O’Dwyer open-shoved with jack-nine and Gonzalez snap-called with pocket rockets. O’Dwyer flopped two pair which improved to a full house. The river failed to help Gonzalez and O’Dwyer was crowned as the champion as he took away the first-place prize money worth £450,000.
