India’s biggest online tournament to-date, PokerBaazi’s End Boss ₹5 Crores GTD, finally concluded in the wee hours of Monday morning, and for a second, we were pulled back in time to 2003. Just as Abhishek ‘Human_AI’ Maheshwari beat Neel ‘Worm33’ Joshi (runner-up for ₹65.01 Lakhs) to become the first-ever EndBoss champion, we were reminded of Chris Moneymaker‘s phenomenal run in the 2003 WSOP Main Event. It was a classic ‘amateur beats pros’ story. Moneymaker had won his seat to the WSOP Main Event in a $86 satellite tournament on PokerStars and went on to ship the mega event for $2.5 Million. Similarly, Maheshwari, who is a recreational player, had won his seat in the EndBoss through a ₹1K (10 seats GTD) satellite to Day 1D of the EndBoss. Incredibly, Maheshwari had got the satellite ticket as a bonus for making a deposit of ₹5K on the site. The rest, as we now know, is history as this Pune resident went on to ship this record-smashing tourney for a life-altering ₹1 Crore payday!
On a final table comprising of seasoned professionals like Romit ’tilt83′ Advani (3rd for ₹40.05 Lakhs), Aditya ‘KesarDa’ Kesharwani (4th for ₹26.54 Lakhs), Rishab ‘ryuk’ Malik (5th for ₹19.35 Lakhs), Shubham ‘Aurangzeb_9’ Mahapatra (6th for ₹15.49 Lakhs), Priyank ‘Piko1432’ Kothari (7th for ₹12.62 Lakhs), Sankalp ‘Wobbegong’ Marwah (8th for ₹10.11 Lakhs) and Anirban ‘pottysingh’ D Das (9th for ₹8.06 Lakhs), Maheshwari who had entered with one of the shorter stacks was clearly the ‘dark horse.’ With the help of some well-timed aggression and good luck at a few crucial spots, Maheshwari was able to outmaneuver the competition and enter the annals of Indian poker history as the first player to win an eight-figure score on a domestic platform!
As for the tournament, EndBoss was announced during the 2020 Baazi Poker Tour (BPT) January edition. At that time, it had seemed like a daunting task for any site to gather approximately 5,000 entries to meet such a humongous guarantee. However, with the nationwide lockdown in place till May 3, the majority of the poker playing traffic has shifted online, and this definitely helped the tourney register a never-before-seen 5,847 entries (Day 1A – 1,205, Day 1B – 1,376, Day 1C – 1,374 and Day 1D – 1,892) – posting a ₹5.85 Crores prize pool. A total of 645 runners advanced to Day 2, and 585 of them finished ITM.
PokerBaazi very generously awarded BSS SuperStack tickets worth ₹5,500 each to places 586-645 on Day 2 of the EndBoss. The gesture worked as the BSS SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD logged in an overwhelming number of 862 entries, leading to a prize pool collection of ₹43.01 Lakhs. It was yet another fantastic day for Team PokerGuru yesterday, and starting things off in style was PokerGuru Ambassador Madhav ‘goacartel’ Gupta, who championed the BSS SuperStack to win ₹7.65 Lakhs. Young Gun Ujjwal ‘Mr_Robot’ Narwal finished in second-place for ₹5.37 Lakhs.
While PokerBaazi’s EndBoss clearly stole the show, Spartan Poker’s SSS Series, too, ended on a high note with the SSS Millionaire ₹1.5 Crores GTD. The marquee tournament drew in a 1,497-strong player field (Day 1A – 825 and Day 1B – 890) through its two starting flights. Only 201 survivors (Day 1A – 80 and Day 1B – 121) qualified for Day 2, out of which 185 were unique entries. PokerGuru Ambassador Parikshit ‘Zapdos1311’ Dhall juggernaut his way to the top of the field and defeated Sagar ‘$tuTheKidUngar’ Patnaik heads-up to claim a personal-best online score of ₹26.56 Lakhs. Patnaik bagged ₹15.30 Lakhs for his runner-up finish. With this win, Dhall’s recorded online winnings have surpassed the ₹1.5 Crore-mark.
The SSS#75 Sunday SuperStack ₹50 Lakhs GTD also had an eventful run yesterday as it pulled in 1,147 entries (514 unique, 227 re-entries, and 406 re-buys), collecting ₹57.35 Lakhs in prize money. Young Gun Gaurav ‘mozzie17’ Sood traversed across the large playing field and captured the top honors, including a ₹10.83 Lakhs payday, after outlasting Rohit ‘sttoned’ Kumar (runner-up for ₹6.55 Lakhs) heads-up. Not done yet, Sood added another ₹6.08 Lakhs to his bankroll by placing 11th in PokerBaazi’s EndBoss!
Shashank Jain was another reg in sublime form last night as he took down not one but two flagship tourneys. Playing under the moniker ‘felter,’ Jain decimated the 814-entry field (435 unique and 379 re-entries) that had gathered in Adda52’s Mega Suits ₹30 Lakhs GTD. Jain locked horns with PokerGuru Ambassador Ankit ‘d00mtr00p3r’ Wadhawan in the finale and ultimately walked away with a winner’s paycheque of ₹7.89 Lakhs after locking in a heads-up deal. Wadhawan received ₹6.83 Lakhs for his runner-up finish. The tourney generated a massive prize pool of ₹40.70 Lakhs.
Adda52’s Millions AF ₹20 Lakhs GTD registered ₹32.20 Lakhs prize pool through 322 entries (189 unique and 133 re-entries). Topping the field was the anonymous user ‘jimmyadams’ who pocketed ₹8.05 Lakhs up top.
The other big guarantee tourney on Adda52, the Big Slick ₹15 Lakhs GTD, attracted 792 entries (449 unique and 343 re-entries) to generate a prize pool of ₹17.82 Lakhs. Honey ‘ho9ey’ Bijlani came out as the winner and collected ₹3.17 Lakhs.
While PokerStars India also hosted big guarantee tourneys last night, these were overshadowed by the likes of the EndBoss and Millionaire. The site’s Sunday Highroller ₹20 Lakhs GTD was hit with a ₹70,000 overlay on the back of a field of 193 entries (120 unique and 73 re-entries). Shashank ‘felterr’ Jain came out on top yet again beating out another PokerGuru Ambassador Rohit ‘PillowFight22’ Mishra (runner-up for ₹2.94 Lakhs) heads-up and banked ₹3.97 Lakhs in first-place prize money.
Dhinesh ‘you3betl4bet’ Kumar ran past a field of 406 entries (249 unique and 157 re-entries) in PokerStars India’s Sunday Special Progressive KO ₹20 Lakhs GTD and grabbed the most significant portion of the ₹20.30 Lakhs prize pool worth ₹3.58 Lakhs. Shagun ‘Sogani22’ Jain came in second for ₹2.21 Lakhs.

EndBoss ₹5 Crores GTD – PokerBaazi
Entries – 3,665
Re-entries – 2,182
Prize Pool – ₹5.85 Crores

It was in the early hours of Monday morning that PokerBaazi crowned its first-ever EndBoss champion in 27-year-old Abhishek ‘Human_AI’ Maheshwari, who won a monstrous ₹1 Crore payday!
A Pune-based recreational player, Maheshwari, in true ‘Chris Moneymaker’ fashion, won his seat for Day 1D of the tournament through a ₹1K (10 seats GTD) satellite. Incredibly, he didn`t have to buy the satellite seat either as it was credited to him as a bonus offer for depositing ₹5K on the site.
Maheshwari didn`t let his lack of experience get in the way as he ran his short stack through the reg-infested final table that included the likes of Romit ’tilt83′ Advani (3rd for ₹40,05 Lakhs), Aditya ‘KesarDa’ Kesharwani (4th for ₹26.54 Lakhs), Rishab ‘ryuk’ Malik (5th for ₹19.35 Lakhs), Shubham ‘Aurangzeb_9’ Mahapatra (6th for ₹15.49 Lakhs), Priyank ‘Piko1432’ Kothari (7th for ₹12.62 Lakhs), Sankalp ‘Wobbegong’ Marwah (8th for ₹10.11 Lakhs), and Anirban ‘pottysingh’ D Das (9th for ₹8,06,886).
