It was an action-packed night on the virtual felts with the Adda52 Online Poker Series (AOPS) dominating the headlines. The series that enjoyed an eventful run for most of its duration landed itself in quite a soup on Sunday after announcing an additional starting flight last-minute to its AOPS Main Event Finale ₹1.5 Crore GTD event.

Adda52 has been marred in controversy for the better part of 2019 after its archaic TDS policy came under fire, leading to multiple boycotts by the majority of the poker playing community. The company turned a new leaf with an updated policy at the start of the year, much to the delight of the community. However, yesterday, Adda52, perhaps pre-empting a massive overlay in its star attraction AOPS Main Event Finale, decided to add an unscheduled fourth flight to the event. The issue was highlighted on social media with Kartik Ved posting on Facebook.

“Adda decided to add an extra flight in the middle of a tournament because they were going to face a huge overlay without any communication whatsoever. This is outright cheating and illegal cannot be acceptable.

Over time adda52 and their spineless corporate management has always taken players for a ride, the site has to pay up for the overlay if they offered it.

The problem is this market has no rules and everyone just does what they want and let the players suffer.

Urge the admins to come up with a resolution in comments.

Boycotting upcoming DPT is a good starter.”

Several members of the domestic poker circuit, including Sriharsha Doddapaneni, Ayan Ray, Amar Reddy, Sahil Agarwal, Anish Patra, Zarvan Tumboli, and Raghav Bansal came out in support for Ved. Adda52 management is yet to respond to the issue.

Despite the last-minute added flight, the AOPS Main Event Finale still failed to avoid an overlay. After registering 1,442 entries (Day 1A – 336, Day 1B – 320, Day 1C Early – 221 and Day 1C Late – 565), the event suffered a shortfall of ₹5.80 Lakhs. With the best stack forward format applicable, only 150 survivors made it to Day 2. After many hours of grueling play, Day 1A chip leader ‘blunt420’ emerged victorious in the Main Event and banked a massive ₹31.24 Lakhs payday. The journey to clinch the title was a tough one, especially since he had to face off against one of India’s leading poker pros, Aditya ‘iamherenow’ Agarwal, who ultimately finished runner-up for an equally impressive ₹17.50 Lakhs.

The poker icon had parted ways with PokerStars India in December 2019 and since then has been very active on all online poker sites. In fact, Agarwal is the mysterious ‘Yennefer’ on Spartan Poker who had shipped the IOPC #85 The Elite ₹30 Lakhs GTD for ₹8.22 Lakhs on February 7, chopped the IOPC #79 Super HighRoller ₹1 Crore GTD for ₹23.66 Lakhs on February 6 and won the Ultron ₹20 Lakhs GTD for ₹4.60 Lakhs on January 23.

Besides the AOPS Main Event, the other two big tickets on offer last night were the AOPS Mega Suits ₹30 Lakhs GTD and AOPS Big Slick ₹20 Lakhs GTD. Former WSOP bracelet winner Aditya ‘A_Sushant’ Sushant championed the AOPS Mega Suits for a colossal ₹7.47 Lakhs payout, while Siddarth ‘badtameez_donk’ Singhvi triumphed in the AOPS Big Slick for a cool ₹4.77 Lakhs.

Spartan Poker’s Sunday signature tourney, the Sunday SuperStack ₹35 Lakhs GTD, attracted 777 entrants 334 unique, 187 re-entries, and 256 re-buys), generating a prize pool worth ₹38.85 Lakhs. Neel ‘Worm33’ Joshi trounced the field, including Sanchit ‘tullupump’ Adukia (runner-up for ₹4.52 Lakhs) heads-up to capture the title and top prize of ₹5.04 Lakhs.

PokerBaazi’s BSS SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD garnered 493 hopefuls (245 unique and 248 re-entries) and had to fill in a shortfall of ₹35,000. Neeraj ‘neeraj2828’ Bajaj took down the event after besting 2019 WSOP star Abhinav ‘griezmann’ Iyer in the heads-up battle. The champion pocketed ₹4.85 Lakhs for the win, while Iyer locked in ₹3.40 Lakhs for placing second.

Over at PokerStars India, the Sunday Special Progressive KO ₹15 Lakhs GTD, pulled in 327 entries, leading to a prize pool collection of ₹16.35 Lakhs. ‘callmebyurballs’ won the event for ₹2.92 Lakhs.

While there were several trailblazing performances yesterday, the one player who stood out was Anurag Srivastava. The latest Millionaire Main Event champion picked up four scores on Sunday which included three final table finishes, namely in PokerBaazi’s The Monster 6-Max ₹5 Lakhs GTD (runner-up for ₹1.06 Lakhs), Adda52’s AOPS ME Finale ₹1.5 Crore GTD (146th for ₹30,000), PokerStars India’s Sunday Special (L) ₹5 Lakhs GTD (6th for ₹20,114) and 9stacks’ The Joker ₹10 Lakhs GTD (9th for ₹20,000).

Among the other prominent scorers were Anant Purohit, Tathagata Sengupta, Kamal Naruka, and Anuj Yadav, who posted deep runs in multiple events.
