The action was electric on the virtual felts on Sunday night, and with practically all major platforms running massive guaranteed events, several marquee events jumped onto the overlay bandwagon! With a tussle for MTT players going on between Spartan Poker’s Grand Poker Series (GPS), the Adda52 Online Poker Series (AOPS), the PokerBaazi Premier League (PPL) and Pocket52’s Blue, players had a plethora of flagships tourneys to choose from. Let’s take a look at what went down yesterday.
The second edition of the GPS is now in the books and the highlight of the series, the ₹1 Crore GTD GPS The Millionaire finally crowned a champion last night. The event had gathered 2,059 entries that helped it comfortably sail past it listed guarantee, accumulating ₹1.02 Crores in the prize pool kitty through four starting flights. Only 132 runners made it through to Day 2.
Conquering the field to claim the Millionaire title was Rahul ‘Rahul2646’ Kabade, who banked an eye-catching ₹15.91 Lakhs. Before he could capture the title, a heads-up deal was struck, ensuring that the runner-up ‘mannu2424’ took home an equally impressive ₹14.98 Lakhs. Before this win, Kabade had hardly any score to speak of on Spartan Poker. However, with this seven-figure haul, the champion now has ₹16.02 Lakhs in winnings on the site, and a profit of ₹15.84 Lakhs.
Young Gun Gaurav ‘mozzie17’ Sood (4th for ₹6.17 Lakhs), Anant ‘Pro’ Purohit (5th for ₹4.86 Lakhs), Vikaash ‘viks82’ Shah (7th for ₹2.56 Lakhs) and Avinit ‘pushnpray17’ Bagri (8th for ₹2.34 Lakhs), were among the final table finishers.
The Sunday staple tourney on Spartan Poker, the ₹40 Lakhs GTD GPS #33 Sunday Superstack, witnessed 804 contenders pay the ₹5,500 buy-in, ultimately generating a ₹40.20 Lakhs prize pool. Well-known poker pro Nishant ‘FunkyouFTW1’ Sharma traversed the field and bested ‘POKERGOD31’ (runner-up for ₹4.84 Lakhs) heads-up to lock in a winner’s paycheque worth ₹7.71 Lakhs. Sharma, who was the first Indian to crack the top 50 in the WSOP Main Event back in 2018, was on fire last night as he came close to winning a second title in Adda52’s AOPS Millions. He eventually settled for a runner-up finish worth ₹4.65 Lakhs, taking his cumulative winnings for the night to ₹12.36 Lakhs. His seven-figure Sunday score has catapulted him three places to #20 on the annual earnings leaderboard with earnings of ₹1.62 Crores.
The ₹15 Lakhs GTD GPS#34 Money Heist was one of the few events that registered an overlay yesterday. With a turnout of 430 entries, the site failed to reach the break-even mark by ₹2.10 Lakhs. Anonymous user ‘ladrag’ championed the tourney to win ₹3 Lakhs, while former Millionaire winner Dhinesh ‘kendralust’ Kumar came in second for ₹1.99 Lakhs.
The 15th edition of Spartan Poker’s ever-popular Destiny played out its SnG Finale last night. PokerGuru Ambassador Vivek ‘KasolHieghts’ Singh emerged victorious, claiming a package worth ₹3.70 Lakhs. Manoj ‘h4r5hv33r’ Singh placed runner-up for ₹3.30 Lakhs and Adirath ‘AdirathSingh’ Singh finished third for ₹3 Lakhs.
While the GPS series is over, the August bonanza on Spartan Poker is just beginning. Starting August 11, the premier online site will host the Ultimate Value Series (UVS) featuring over ₹1 Crore in guaranteed prizes! With buy-in ranging from ₹110 to ₹2,200, the series comprises 35 high-value tournaments that will run until August 16.
Running alongside the GPS and PPL was Adda52’s AOPS. The site had been marred with technical difficulties over the past few weeks, resulting in several canceled tournaments. Nevertheless, Adda52 was able to run its planned Sunday tourneys without incident. The featured tourney of the day was the ₹1 Crore GTD AOPS Mini ME Finale. The event logged in 1,780 entries through six starting flights, but it wasn’t enough to meet its advertised guarantee as the site had to fill in a massive ₹11 Lakhs deficit!
Former Millionaire winner Guneet ‘guntz’ Kwatra, cruised his way to the top of a reg-infested final table that included Dhirendra ‘Dhiru006’ Kumar (4th for ₹5.75 Lakhs), PokerGuru Ambassador Devvrat ‘glitch_d’ Arya (5th for ₹4.20 Lakhs), Srihari ‘zombieballs’ Bang (7th for ₹2 Lakhs), Abhineet ‘pokemon13’ Jain (8th for ₹1.50 Lakhs) and Apoorva ‘DPT.54’ Goel (9th for ₹1 Lakhs).
Kwatra locked horns with Rohit ‘rohitvaswani’ Vaswani in the heads-up play and, in the end, overtook the latter to claim a mouth-watering top prize worth ₹25 Lakhs! Vaswani received ₹13.89 Lakhs for his runner-up finish.
This was Kwatra’s biggest-score on Adda52, and his overall winnings now stand tall at ₹3.3 Crores, of which ₹75.69 Lakhs he has won on Adda52 alone. Vaswani’s boasts a career-best score of ₹21 Lakhs that he had won in Adda52’s ₹1 Crore GTD AOPS Full House on June 28.
The ₹30 Lakhs GTD AOPS Millions also boarded the overlay express and registered a ₹4.30 Lakhs shortfall after 257 participants ponied up the ₹11,000 buy-in. ‘pradipg9720’ triumphed over the field, beating Nishant ‘dojingbullets’ Sharma (runner-up for ₹4.65 Lakhs) in the final showdown, and went on to collect a winner’s payday worth ₹7.80 Lakhs. The winner presently has ₹8.42 Lakhs in recorded winnings on Adda52, with a profit of ₹7.58 Lakhs.
The ₹20 Lakhs GTD AOPS Big Slick persisted with the overlay trend. A turnout of 758 contenders could not prevent the event for missing its break-even mark by ₹2.94 Lakhs. Sandeep ‘2EZ4Me’ Chauhan took advantage of the value on offer and clinched the top honors for ₹3.95 Lakhs. Seasoned pro Shravan ‘sweatmyass13’ Chhabria fell one spot short of the title and finished runner-up instead. However, due to a heads-up deal being agreed upon by the top two finalists, Chhabria netted a ₹3.73 Lakhs payday.
Shagun ‘Sogani94’ Jain (AOPS PKO Shots ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.40 Lakhs), Akshay ‘nofuchsgiven’ Dhingra (AOPS Brunch ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.37 Lakhs), and Vikash ‘vikinse’ Khaitan (AOPS Sunday Punch ₹5 Lakhs GTD for ₹86,146) were the other big Sunday winners on Adda52.
With PokerBaazi’s PPL now well and truly underway, one of the first marquee events to kick-off was the ₹50 Lakhs GTD The Endeavour. Comprising of four starting flights, the event commenced on August 8. Last night, starting flights Day 1C and Day 1D played out, and the total number of entries stands at 1,338. Sporting a buy-in of ₹3,850, the event registered an overlay of ₹3.17 Lakhs, and 169 runners (Day 1A – 40, Day 1B – 42, Day 1C – 49 and Day 1D – 38) have advanced to Day 2.
The first flight to play out on Sunday was Day 1C that saw well-known reg Anurag ’13anurag’ Srivastava emerging as the end of the day chip leader with 349,000 in chips. Deepak ‘kakoji’ Bothra (293,000) and PokerGuru Ambassador Kartik ‘TheInternetKid’ Ved (261,000) rounded out the top three stacks.
Dinesh ‘htc170209’ Kukreja grabbed the pole position on Day 1D with 301,000 chips, while Kavish ‘Narcos’ Kukreja (246,000) and Young Gun Kanchan ‘Kanchansharma’ Sharma (203,000) were placed second and third, respectively.
Day 1A chip leader ‘Pablo_escobar’ is the overall chip leader, with a stack of 370,000, and will headline the 169 survivors to Day 2 that starts at 8 PM on August 11.
Besides the Endeavour, the ₹30 Lakhs GTD PPL#16 BSS SuperStack was the other signature event on PokerBaazi. Attracting 557 entrants, the site was forced to fill in an overlay of ₹2.15 Lakhs. Making good use of the value on offer, Sonam ‘easypickns’ Kelley bagged the lion’s share of the prize pool worth ₹5.82 Lakhs, while M Keerthi ‘pokerkid08’ Kumar placed runner-up for ₹4.08 Lakhs.
Site regular ‘Apocalypto’ juggernaut to the top of a 312-entry field in PokerBaazi’s ₹15 Lakhs GTD PPL#17 BSS MegaStack to win ₹3.31 Lakhs. The champion outlasted Pratibh ‘pratibhsaluja’ Saluja in the heads-up play, and the latter walked away with a ₹2.32 Lakhs payday. Like the PPL BSS SuperStack, the PPL BSS Mega Stack also fell short by ₹4.08 Lakhs on its offered guarantee.
The ₹5 Lakhs GTD PPL#15 BSS PKO was taken down by ‘riteshcbec’ for ₹1.20 Lakhs. ‘drankitmohata’ placed second for ₹84,650.
The flagship event on PokerStars India was the ₹50 Lakhs GTD The Hercules. Garnering 545 entries, the event recorded a landslide ₹11.64 Lakhs loss! Mystery user ‘you3bi4b’ won the event for ₹8.25 Lakhs, following a three-way deal with Vinayak ‘koi.toh.rok.lo’ Bajaj (runner-up for ₹5.42 Lakhs) and Arsh ‘BiggggTymeR’ Grover (3rd for ₹6.25 Lakhs).
For a change, PokerStars India’s ₹18 Lakhs GTD Sunday Special Progressive KO was able to surpass its advertised guarantee and posted a ₹18.10 Lakhs prize pool on the back of 362 entries. Siddharth ‘WaaaduHek’ Mundada championed the event for ₹3.39 Lakhs, after defeating Partho ‘SpidermanIndia’ Datta in the heads-up finale. Datta took home ₹1.43 Lakhs in second-place prize money. This was a welcome win for Mundada, who had last won a title in PokerBaazi’s The Summit in October 2019 for ₹3.91 Lakhs. He currently has ₹1.59 Crores in recorded online winnings.
However, the ₹15 Lakhs GTD Sunday Highroller did not fare as well as the Sunday Special and ended up booking a loss of ₹40,000 after logging in 146 entries. Site regular ‘theoldestkid’ banked ₹3.12 Lakhs for shipping the event, while Shiv ‘DarksideOf82’ Verma pocketed ₹2.34 Lakhs for his runner-up finish.
Pocket52’s biggest-ever series, ‘Blue’, continued its run on Sunday with the ₹15 Lakhs GTD Pocket Aces spearheading the schedule. Drawing in 281 entries, the event generated an overlay of ₹3.76 Lakhs. ‘Neeraj08’ took down the event for ₹3.22 Lakhs.
The ₹5 Lakhs GTD Bracelet found a winner in ‘nawazzi96,’ who topped a 165-entry field and claimed the most significant portion of the prize pool worth ₹1.15 Lakhs. This event, too, had a shortfall of ₹1.70 Lakhs.
