Action has been fast and furious over the weekend, what with the Spartan Poker-hosted India Online Poker Championship (IOPC) taking the virtual felts by storm. The series has not one but three Millionaire editions lined up over three consecutive weekends. And getting the action in top gear last weekend was the first of them, the IOPC #17 The Millionaire X5. The flagship tournament once again brought in the numbers with a mammoth player field of 1,882 entries (Day 1A – 665, Day 1B – 464, Day 1C – 753) joining the action across the three starting flights. Only 197 of them (Day 1A – 66, Day 1B – 48, Day 1C – 83) that included 172 unique players could survive through to Day 2.

An intense battle ensued, and after over five hours of play on Sunday, five players became millionaires, namely, Kunal ‘kunal’ Kubba, Nikhil ‘Crazy_coyote’ Ramesh, ‘Iceiceice,’ PokerGuru Ambassador Gokul ‘Super Kings’ Raj and Aditya ‘Adiwankenobi’ Wadhwani. The ₹8,000 buy-in tournament upped the ante this time, offering at least ₹15 Lakhs to the top five finishers, and given the massive turnout, each of these winners went to sleep on Monday morning ₹15,05,600 richer.

The final table was a stacked affair and saw the likes of Ujjwal ‘Lord Hendrix’ Narwal (7th for ₹6.19 Lakhs), and Raghav ‘thatssosick’ Bansal (8th for ₹4.81 Lakhs) featuring on the top-heavy payouts list. Bansal was far from done as he went on to finish runner-up in PokerStars India’s Winter Series-44 Main Event ₹50 Lakhs GTD!

The Millionaire may have grabbed all the eyeballs, but there were plenty of other high-value tournaments playing out on the site. The IOPC #18 Sunday SuperStack ₹40 Lakhs GTD was another marquee event that crowned a champion yesterday. With a veritably sizeable field of 1,013 entries (448 unique, 226 re-entries, and 339 rebuys), the event smashed its advertised guarantee to garner a very hefty prize pool amounting to ₹50.65 Lakhs. Seasoned reg Gaurav ‘mozzie17’ Sood ran strong for the title and eventually struck a heads-up deal with ‘2cards1guy’. The latter clinched the title for ₹7.82 Lakhs while Sood finished runner-up for ₹7.80 Lakhs – the first of two runner-up finishes he made last night.

The Sunday tourneys at PokerBaazi were headlined by the BSS SuperStack ₹25 Lakhs GTD. PokerGuru Ambassador Nadeem ‘SpadeHunter’ Basha topped a field of 488 entries (254 unique and 234 re-entries) and defeated Gaurav ‘gaug17’ Sood heads-up to snag the title. Basha pocketed ₹4.85 Lakhs for his efforts, with Sood banked ₹3.40 Lakhs taking his Sunday winnings over the million-mark. The event suffered a marginal shortfall of ₹60,000 in meeting its advertised guarantee.

Adda52 had a full schedule of Sunday tournaments on offer, and the showstopper was the Millions AF ₹20 Lakhs GTD, where, with 227 entries, that included 146 unique entries and 81 re-entries, the event comfortably surpassed the guarantee to accrue a ₹22.70 Lakhs prize pool. Looking at the payouts, it seems that a heads-up deal was struck in the final moments of the tournament. Anurag ‘NormanBates’ Srivastava eventually took up the winner’s spot for ₹5 Lakhs in prize money. PokerGuru Ambassador Kartik ‘Pegasus1505’ Ved placed second and pocketed an impressive ₹4.85 Lakhs for his efforts.

Also joining the elite champions’ club was Akash ‘NIKI LAUDA F1’ Shekhar. Shekhar trounced a 676-strong (373 unique and 303 re-entries) field and defeated a formidable heads-up rival Raghav ‘OMGZ_ITS_RB’ Bansal to win the PokerStars India’s Winter Series-44 Main Event ₹50 Lakhs GTD for ₹8.03 Lakhs.

Even though Bansal missed out on the title, he added ₹4.27 Lakhs to his Sunday winnings. The tournament fell short of meeting its guarantee by ₹2.68 Lakhs (regular prize pool – ₹26.34 Lakhs, bounty prize pool – ₹23.66 Lakhs).

Over at 9stacks, the weekend headliner was the Thalaiva ₹20 Lakhs GTD that clocked in 641 entries (463 unique, 65 re-entries, and 113 rebuys). Several players enjoyed a profitable run, and taking home the most significant slice of the prize pool was Bhavvye ‘noobpro’ Mittal. Mittal padded his bankroll by ₹4.20 Lakhs after beating his heads-up rival ‘deps111’ to the finish line. The latter won ₹2.80 Lakhs for finishing second.

Poker Dangal’s Sunday lineup of events was dominated by the Sunday Bonanza ₹1 Lakh GTD where, despite 138 entries (96 unique and 42 rebuys) ponying up the ₹700 entry fee, the site had to fill in an overlay of ₹3,400. ‘cbs786’ proved triumphant and captured the title for ₹21,000.
