This first Sunday of 2020 saw some electrifying action as the first leg of the Baazi Poker Tour Online (BPTO) came to an end. The showstopper event at the series, the BPTO Main Event ₹1 Crore GTD, registered a total number of 782 entries (Day 1A – 324 and Day 1B – 458). Starting off Day 2 on January 5, the play was halted once the nine-handed final table was formed. Coming out as the end of play chip leader was young talent Gaurav ‘gaug17’ Sood, who bagged the most towering stack of 688,935, followed by Phanindra ‘phanindra’ Akkina (453,176) and Aditya ‘gangajal’ Sushant (436,964), who rounded out the top three stacks. The online action will now continue live at the PokerBaazi LIVE poker room onboard Casino Pride 2, where the final table play will start at 6 PM on January 7.

PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish ‘rocky3705’ Ahuja is another player who has started 2020 with a bang. Having already booked a berth on the BPTO High Roller 6-Max ₹50 Lakhs GTD final table with a stack of 429,250, he made it two-for-two by final tabling the BPTO Main Event as well, this time with 104,415 in chips. Fellow Team Ambassador Gokul ‘Nygma’ Raj will be joining Ahuja on the BPTO Main Event final table with a stack of 136,560.

The BPTO SuperStack ₹30 Lakhs GTD was another headliner on the schedule last night. The tournament pulled in 527 runners (307 unique and 220 re-entries), comfortably smashing its advertised guarantee with a prize pool collection of ₹39.52 Lakhs. Seasoned pro Nishant ‘nishant177’ Sharma came out on top after outlasting Shardul ‘duuurrr’ Parthasarathi heads-up to bank a mouth-watering ₹7.67 Lakhs in prize money. Parthasarathi took home ₹5.38 Lakhs for his runner-up finish.

Running alongside the BPTO was the PokerBaazi Monthly Value Series (PMVS) that culminated yesterday with the PMVS#18 Main Event Day 2 ₹50 Lakhs GTD. Priyank ‘Piko1432’ Kothari took down the event for ₹7.55 Lakhs, while Guneet ‘guntz’ Kwatra finished runner-up for ₹4.70 Lakhs. Kothari made another runner-up finish last night, this time in the PMVS#17 The Monster ₹7 Lakhs GTD for ₹1.25 Lakhs.

While PokerBaazi’s BPTO and PMVS dominated the Sunday schedule, Spartan Poker’s Sunday SuperStack ₹35 Lakhs GTD was another big-ticket event that ran its usual course last night. Logging in 676 entries (298 unique, 141 re-entries, and 237 re-buys), the tournament had to fill in a marginal overlay of ₹1.20 Lakhs. Sriharsha ‘Fish2050’ Doddapaneni, who has been featuring quite prominently in our ‘Daily Major’ reports, was seen running past the competition to claim the top prize worth ₹6.77 Lakhs. Doddapaneni was, in fact, the breakout performer last night as he picked up four more final table finishes, namely, PokerBaazi’s PMVS #18 Main Event ₹50 Lakhs GTD (3rd for ₹3.52 Lakhs) and PMVS#17 The Monster ₹7 Lakhs GTD (8th for ₹23,821), Adda52’s Big Slick ₹15 Lakhs GTD (3rd for ₹1.49 Lakhs) and 9stacks’ The Dragon ₹10 Lakhs GTD (7th for ₹49,000), taking his cumulative winnings for the night to ₹12.50 Lakhs.

PokerStars India’s Sunday Special Progressive KO ₹15 Lakhs GTD was among the Sunday flagships that managed to run past the advertised guarantee. The tournament registered a prize pool of ₹15.20 Lakhs through 304 entries (160 unique and 140 re-entries). The top online scorer of 2019, Srihari ‘bangbang1999’ Bang kicked off the New Year in style by clinching the first Sunday Special title of the year. He defeated PokerGuru Ambassador Nadeem ‘Downtownplaya’ Basha (runner-up for ₹1.66 Lakhs) heads-up to win ₹2.43 Lakhs. Basha, who has been an unstoppable force these past few days, added yet another notable finish to his online resume.

With a revised TDS policy, Adda52 has also witnessed a resurgence in player turnouts in its flagship tournaments. Last night’s Mega Suits ₹25 Lakhs GTD was no different, registering 521 entries that helped generate a prize pool worth ₹26.05 Lakhs. Neel ‘neeljoshi23’ Joshi shipped the event for a ₹5.02 Lakhs payday.
