After a busy 11 months, we are just two Sundays away from the next year rolling in. Online tournament action at the domestic poker sites has been power-packed nonetheless, and December 16 turned out to be one of the biggest Sundays of the year in terms of massive online wins.

The past week was all about the winter edition of the PokerBaazi Premier League (PPL), the signature series of India’s premier site PokerBaazi. At various editions played out earlier this year, the PPL has consistently created benchmarks for the high value and winning opportunities offered to online players and the PPL Winter ’18 edition was no different. Off to an energetic start on December 10, the series saw six days of hectic online action that rewarded online players with crores in prize money!

The most anticipated tournament of the PPL Winter’18 was The MoneyMaker ₹1 Crore GTD that attracted a gigantic field of 1,332 entries (742 unique and 590 re-entries), collecting a whopping ₹1.33 Crore prizepool. Overriding the tough competition, Nitish Somnath Gupta, our first Young Gun ever emerged as the MoneyMaker champion and banked a massive ₹32.63 Lakhs. Gupta defeated online regular Chiraag Versutus Patel heads-up to lock up the title. Patel pocketed a career-best score of ₹17.98 Lakhs.

The PPL Winter’ 18 has culminated, with Sameer ‘Killersam’ Tavanandi being declared the series’ Leaderboard winner. Tavanandi missed winning the PPL Overall Yearly Leaderboard where he was pushed to runner-up place by Ramlakhan ‘Hitler’ Meena. Meena will be rewarded with a brand new Harley Davidson bike for his consistency at the PPL this year.

Taking down the various others events these past few days at the PPL Winter ’18 edition were Avish thehorse7 Sharma, Sreekanth n0thing Narayan, Sumit boronyx Sapra, and Akash ‘akash_durr’ Gupta, among others.

A well-known name of the domestic circuit, Haresh Narcos Kukreja was another star performer this Sunday. Kukreja bagged two titles across different sites and his exploits started with him winning The Value Town ₹15 Lakhs GTD at the PPL Winter’18 under moniker ‘Narcos (₹3.15 Lakhs). He went on to win the weekend special Sunday Stacks on 9stacks as ‘Dietchips’ (₹3.82 Lakhs).

With the PPL series now in the rear-view mirror there is still much to look forward to with The Winter Series ₹1.65 Crores GTD (December 16-24) that is currently underway at PokerStars India. Topping the list of winners at the site was Young Gun Sharad ‘sordykrd’ Rao. Rao, who had already punched his ticket to the PokerStars Players NLHE Championship (PSPC), Bahamas in early November. He reached a heads-up deal with Arsh ‘BiggggTymeR’ Grover (₹2.20 Lakhs) to win the Sunday Special Progressive KO ₹6,600 NLHE ₹20 Lakhs GTD for ₹4.14 Lakhs. Other big winners at PokerStars India were ‘iamhobadshah’, Sriharsha ‘DonkeyCommitted’ Boneni, ‘anandsankar’, ‘imhobadshah’ and ‘Virshallsee’.

The Sunday- special Nations Cup Qualifier on PokerRaj saw Abhishek ‘Pro123’ Lowanshi winning his way to the finale, slated to be held on January 13, 2019 along with ₹33,000 in prize money.

The big winners at fast growing online poker site MadOverPoker featured Neeraj ‘Silentkiller’ Dureja (Night Crawler for ₹17,500), Mahesh ‘mahikalra’ Shyamsundar (Grenade for ₹20,250) and Uday ‘u2day’ Mondal (Dynamite for₹27,765).
