January is off to an excellent start, and the second Sunday of 2021 was far more electrifying than the first, with two ₹50 Lakhs GTD tourneys running in tandem.

One of the weekend headliners, the IOPC Contender, a frontrunner to the upcoming IOPC 2021 January Edition, was championed by former Millionaire champion Guneet Kwatra for ₹7.22 Lakhs. However, the day`s single-biggest score belonged to the other ₹50 Lakhs GTD tourney winner, the first-ever Adda52 Big Game champion Rahul Jain, who netted a whopping ₹15.64 Lakhs for his win.

There is a lot more to look forward to with Spartan Poker’s IOPC January Edition and the first-ever APT 2021 Online Series India on PokerBaazi, both slated to begin on January 15.

Spearheading the Sunday action on Spartan Poker was the pre-runner for the upcoming IOPC mega-series, the ₹50 Lakhs GTD IOPC Contender. The ₹3,300 entry buy-in tourney dragged in 1,577 entries across three starting flights, registering an overlay of ₹2.69 Lakhs. A total of 212 stacks were carried forward to Day 2, and this included 181 unique entries.

Claiming his first title victory of 2021, the former Millionaire champion Guneet’ GeeKay’ Kwatra came out on top to win ₹7.22 Lakhs. A heads-up chop ensured that runner-up Ramji’ bluffpolice123’ Kishore G took home ₹6.66 Lakhs in cash prize. After this win, Kwatra’s overall online earnings have crossed ₹4.36 Crores.

The Sunday signature tourney on Spartan Poker, the Sunday SuperStack, had its guarantee boosted from ₹25 Lakhs to ₹30 Lakhs. Starting at 8 PM, the tourney gathered 592 participants, missing the break-even mark by just eight entries or ₹40,000. Outlasting the competition was Aryan’ bob_marley’ Kumar, who defeated the former SSS Millionaire winner Saurabh’ darksider’ Rohila (runner-up for ₹3.69 Lakhs) heads-up to collect ₹5.82 Lakhs in first-place prize money. Aryan Kumar, best-known for finishing runner-up in Spartan Poker’s ₹2 Crores GTD The Millionaire Series Main Event on December 13 for ₹19.08 Lakhs, currently has ₹78.37 Lakhs in online earnings.

Sunday also brought a close to the first Ultimate Value Series of 2021, with the ₹10 Lakhs GTD UVS#41 Main Event declaring a winner in Mahesh’ mariokart’ Shyamsundar. The champion ran past a crowded 1,100 entries to bag the lion’s share of the ₹11 Lakhs prize pool worth ₹1.90 Lakhs. A three-way deal saw Anil’ anil999’ Arora (runner-up for ₹1.20 Lakhs) and Kashif’ CRED’ Ahmed (3rd for ₹1.16 Lakhs) securing podium finishes.

The 17th edition of the Destiny also wrapped up last night. The Destiny 17.0 SnG Finale saw Arjunn’ Arjunn Ag’ Agrawal topping a table full of past Destiny winners to win ₹5 Lakhs. Sandeep’ SandeeSingh’ Singh finished second for ₹3 Lakhs, while ‘papertiger’ placed third for ₹2 Lakhs.

PokerStars India once again hosted two ₹15 Lakhs guarantee events yesterday. The Sunday Special Progressive KO was the first on the line-up. The ₹5,500 entry buy-in tourney logged in 243 entrants, filling in a shortfall of ₹2.85 Lakhs. Young Gun Anmol’ Kaanchacheena’ Mehta was the last player standing and took home a winner’s paycheque worth ₹3.20 Lakhs (₹1.71 Lakhs in prize money, ₹1.49 Lakhs in bounties). PokerGuru Ambassador Parikshit’ Zapdos123’ Dhall came in second for ₹1.38 Lakhs (₹1.26 Lakhs in prize money, ₹11,563 in bounties). With this win, Mehta’s online scorecard has zoomed past ₹3.16 Crores.

Kicking off two and a half hours after the Sunday Special was the Sunday Highroller. Sporting a ₹11,000 entry buy-in, the event logged in 119 entries, with the site having to fill in a sizable overlay of ₹3.10 Lakhs. Site regular Anish ‘sheldon11cooper’ Garg was the last player standing and won ₹3.27 Lakhs after besting Shashank’ felterr’ Jain (runner-up for ₹2.43 Lakhs) heads-up. Garg also finished sixth in the Sunday Special for ₹55,157, winning ₹3.82 Lakhs on the site last night.

The ₹1 Lakh GTD Sunday Supersonic garnered 109 entries, generating a ₹1.09 Lakhs prize pool. Amit ‘Stu Ungar 7694’ Kaushik shipped the event for ₹25,194, with ‘KHNH2003’ placing runner-up for ₹18,647.

Headlining the Sunday action on Adda52 was the ₹50 Lakhs GTD Adda52 Big Game that made its inaugural run on the site last night. Running as a part of Adda52’s January Suit-Up promotion, the ₹27,500 entry buy-in event registered 228 contenders, posting a guarantee-smashing ₹57 Lakhs prize pool. Rahul ‘rahulpalawat’ Jain topped the massive field to win a whopping ₹15.64 Lakhs.

Karan ‘JUNIOR11’ Kapur placed runner-up for ₹9.12 Lakhs. Jain had a decent start in the New Year with a final table finish in Adda52’s ₹25 Lakhs GTD Godfather (5th for ₹1.25 Lakhs) on January 7. He has now claimed his first title of the year as well, taking his lifetime online earnings to ₹83.98 Lakhs.

Ranked #2 on the 2020 annual leaderboard, Young Gun Arsh ‘bigggtymer’ Grover has persisted with his stellar form in the New Year as well. After shipping PokerStars India’s ₹10 Lakhs GTD Highroller on Friday for ₹2.08 Lakhs, Grover added yet another title to his tally by taking down Adda52’s ₹30 Lakhs GTD Mega Suits for ₹6.02 Lakhs. Grover struck a heads-up deal with Neeraj ‘neeraj2828’ Bajaj (runner-up for ₹5.37 Lakhs). Grover’s recorded online earnings now stand at ₹6.51 Crores.

The ₹12.5 Lakhs GTD Big Slick also joined the overlay brigade last night. The event clocked in 444 entries and experienced an overlay of ₹2.51 Lakhs. Manika ‘manku1’ Gupta championed the tourney to win ₹2.28 Lakhs, just as ‘PunYaLan’ grabbed the second-place payout worth ₹1.87 Lakhs following a heads-up chop.

The 2020 India Poker Champion Rubin ‘kornkid’ Labroo locked horns with online regular Harsh ‘100crdream’ Dembla for the top honors. In the end, Labroo prevailed, adding ₹5.03 Lakhs to his poker bankroll, while Dembla settled for a runner-up payout worth ₹3.52 Lakhs. Labroo, who had shipped Spartan Poker’s ₹30 Lakhs GTD The Elite on January 8 for ₹5.79 Lakhs, has sent his online record soaring to ₹5.81 Crores after the Sunday night win.

It took former IPC Main Event champion Rubin kornkid’ Labroo a little over eight hours of work to pick up his second flagship title of January, and he collected ₹5.03 Lakhs for the win. Labroo bested MTT reg Harsh ‘100crdream’ Dembla (runner-up for ₹3.52 Lakhs) heads-up to claim the title.

On January 8, Labroo had championed Spartan Poker’s The Elite for 5.79 Lakhs, and his lifetime online winnings have now reached ₹5.81 Crores.

Only the top three players were assured a payout, and taking it down for a ₹5 Lakhs up-top cash prize was Arjunn ‘Arjunn Ag’ Agrawal. His lifetime MTT tally now stands at ₹83.02 Lakhs.

Sandeep ‘SandeeSingh’ Singh (runner-up for ₹3 Lakhs) and mystery-reg papertiger(3rd for ₹2 Lakhs) were the other top finishers behind Agrawal.

Rising atop the competition was one of our Young Guns of 2020, Anmol ‘Kaanchacheena’ Mehta. Alongside the bounties, Mehta padded his bankroll with a hefty ₹3.20 Lakhs (₹1.71 Lakhs in prize money, ₹1.49 Lakhs in bounties).

The last player he eliminated on the way to the title was PokerGuru Ambassador Parikshit ‘Zapdos123’ Dhall, who had to concede to a runner-up score of ₹1.38 Lakhs (₹1.26 Lakhs in prize money, ₹11,563 in bounties).

Mehta, who had placed third in the Godfather for ₹2.50 Lakhs last Thursday, had a profitable Sunday grind. In all, Mehta raked in over ₹4.01 Lakhs and currently sits on ₹3.16 Crore in recorded online winnings.
